I just discovered "The Urantia Book" while watching a video on youtube. As a christian since I was 31,I still have questions unanswered. I am just getting started and I wanted to say Howdy to everyone here. There is literally no study groups where I live so this will be slow going. I have a copy of the Urantia Book coming this week so I don't have to use electronic means to read and study. I am glad that this forum at least exists.

Blessings to all!

Welcome to you, fishman! Always exciting to have a new reader join the group. I know you will find many here eager to fellowship you and help you get your bearings as you explore The Urantia Book - the adventure of a lifetime!

I am curious about the YouTube video that inspired you to look into it. Care to share?

I just received my copy of "The Urantia Book". It is the indexed edition. I am so excited! @MaryJo, here is a link to the video that I ran across while binge watching documentaries one night on youtube, https://youtu.be/KHht8VeSFAc . Thanks for all of the warm welcomes of encouragement.

Blessings to all!

Congrats, fishman! Glad you got that indexed version. It's so fun to use...

Thanks for the video link...what a nice intro to the book. I only watched about a third of it, but will finish it later on.

It is a very nice intro to the UB. I am so amazed at how nice everyone is here. For some reason I started out by asking myself the question of "What is Spiritual Communion?" MaryJo thank you for responding to my posts. For now I am reading 103:4.1-5.

Blessing. :D

What a wonderful spot to dig into. Those papers on religion are some of my favorites...

The Urantia Book is illuminating so much on just one question.

4. Spiritual Communion

103:4.1 (1133.1) The characteristic difference between a social occasion and a religious gathering is that in contrast with the secular the religious is pervaded by the atmosphere of communion. In this way human association generates a feeling of fellowship with the divine, and this is the beginning of group worship. Partaking of a common meal was the earliest type of social communion, and so did early religions provide that some portion of the ceremonial sacrifice should be eaten by the worshipers. Even in Christianity the Lord’s Supper retains this mode of communion. The atmosphere of the communion provides a refreshing and comforting period of truce in the conflict of the self-seeking ego with the altruistic urge of the indwelling spirit Monitor. And this is the prelude to true worship—the practice of the presence of God which eventuates in the emergence of the brotherhood of man.

Thus I see here the similarities between the secular and the religious. Anyway I was just saying how much I have learned in just so little of text.

Blessings!
Sincerely,
Shane :D

This is something that is a feature of the book for me, too - no wasted words at all. Economy of expression, but full of meaning.

Fisherman... What up Dude! Welcome to the sandbox. My preferred way of reading is not reading at all... I have the UB on flash drive and listen to it on the way to work. Admittedly one can not fully concentrate but it seeps in, little by little.
Have a great day!

Al

Hey Al,
What up man! I can understand listening to the UB. I also have the audio. I listen to before I go to sleep. I started doing that recently in order to get some of this good stuff to seep in also. I am partially blind and it is easier for me at times. I am a live-in caregiver so I go to a lot of doctors appts with my client. I take a chromebook with me so I can read while the Dr. does his/her thing. I find myself looking up words a lot while reading.
The online study aids are a true help to me. I can enlarge the text as I need to.I am so grateful for all of the work that has went into this cause for folks such as myself. Have a great day.

Shane/Fishman
