Hi all - just wanted to make a first post and see how I go - started reading the book from the top - moved around some and then picked book 4 to check - just to say it is blowing me away with the details of JC's life - read the Pilate parts to the end and decided I better read from the start of book 4 - totally amazing... will go back to books 1-2-3 after I read book 4 now. just some notes - I am 60 now - have a 47 yr old thai wife- never had kids in my previous life in canada and the usa - 14 yrs in us and 26 in vancouver bc and now 20 in thailand - doing hydraulic seal and gaskets for industrial and mobile machines here - good thai company - biz is good -done all my life and my dad did as well - anyway - just read the early years and how JC was at the temple at 13 and saw all the traditions - blood- sacrificing animals and the money in the temple etc - - and yes it still goes on - religions bowing to idols and stuff - just wanted to mention as well - even here in thailand - lots of money goes into the religion here and gets lost in deep pockets - as it does also in western religions - one of favorite sayings is that if JC and or Buddha came back now they would both be upset with what has gone on in the name of there religions - but also the fact that JC didn't start a religion - buddha either - they just just wanted people to learn how to love their fellow man and realize that it up to each one to make themselves more spiritual... BUddha maybe got wires crossed on the reincarnation thing - but i sure like the acension talk in the UB...
anyway - just wanted to put a few thoughts down and see how the post goes - the first 3 books are going to take some time to get thru - but am flying thru the real story of Jesus's life on earth - am amazed at the detail of his life which is not found in any book on this planet - whoa ...will post more in future as I go - but am getting right into it and trying to read as much as I can assimilate every day - am getting the mind thoughts now to get the book read asap...
thanks for the forum - will try to post more
let me know good or bad !

Steve,
Welcome! And thank you for your post. I agree the part 4 papers about Jesus' life are amazingly detailed and, for me, they filled in the lightly pencil-sketched version of Jesus that we get from the Bible and show us the true man that he was. I love the fact that it shares Jesus' inner life, reactions, and feelings in addition to facts about his activities and teachings.

Parts 1-3 (especially part 1) can be quite intensive and overwhelming, but I found that allowing myself to just take in what I could and not fret about the depth and substance that initially seemed too much to absorb. This is a book best read more than once to fully grasp the deeper concepts.

Bradly and Agon - hey thanks very much for the posts - whoa - am reading book 4 and it is like I am right there step by step - I know i read some earlier papers and yes will go back as the huge amount of info is really mind boggling - and I think I have gotten into the thought adjuster deal - haven't been to a brick and motar church fo maybe 30+ years - but always have had the spiritual thoughts - grew up with christian science and read the book - very much like some of the beginning books on Spirit but the UB is so much more detailed - read the good book thru a couple of times as well - but noticing how book 4 really puts it out there like you are living it right there and seeing and hearing how it all happened - some of the earlier books are signed by so and so and the higher realms are just amazing to read about - ok will get back to them later as I go along - got the word out to my Mum to see if she can get me a paperback version as i had one years ago - read some of it but got sidetracked with too much other stuff in my previous "life" in north america - came over here to thailand to get away from a lot of the fast pace of living - but anyway - just got the pdf book but am cranking on it to read as much as possible every day - had to stop at about 10 pages or so in books 1-2-3 but book 4 is going like on fire...alright enuff for now - appreciate the replies and will post more - am impressed with books 1-2-3 also on he detail of these higher spiritual beings that are writing the papers - is making a lot of things more clear - the mansion worlds and morontia world stuff - all coming into context after my life is now 60 years old - never read enuff i am noticing but never too late...read teh Lucifer Rebillion and this quarantine of earth now makes sense with other things I have read - also the fact that the super high Spiritual races of beings do not need spaceships and ufo's and such to get around - that is also answered in like book 1 as well - huge info here in the UB book if anyone wants to learn it seems about the hidden Truth... anyway - onwards and upwards ... will get back to posting as I go forward - wow
oh yah - also never had kids before in canada but now the thai wife and myself looking after her 2 grandkids - thai's give nicknames to all and they happen to the be grandfish - salmon and sardine - but thai's have trouble with r and l so her nickname turned into just sadine - looking after them for school and stuff the daughter is close also - third is Sanma - a japanese pike fish - and he is feisty like a pike 5 5 5 - that is why i use shrimpy also - worked on a 90ft shrimp boat in chorpus christi for a month and got the nickname shrimpy or shrimpboat - any long stories 5 5 5 - in thai the number 5 is spoken HA ....

Hi shrimpythai...and thanks for your wonderful posts. It is so good to hear the experiences of someone who has been so profoundly impressed by the Master's life in The Urantia Book. So many of us can identify with your enthusiasm. I sure can. There's a good reason that the revelators tell us that knowing the "religious life of Jesus and how he lived it" is the most valuable knowledge we can have. That is found at https://truthbook.com/urantia-book/paper-196-the-faith-of-jesus#U196_1_3 and also at: https://truthbook.com/urantia-book/paper-2-the-nature-of-god#U2_0_2

He was a real person living a real life with situations that are familiar to all other humans...truly one of us!

You remind me of my big brother, Jerry, who lived most of his adult life in Thailand - in Buriram, where he had a Thai wife. He adopted her child (named her after me!) and went on to have a family of six kids. He is now deceased, and I wish he could have known The Urantia Book. But that was not to be. Nevertheless, he felt much as you - that life there was much calmer, sweeter than life in the States. I missed an opportunity to visit him there, and wish I had...alas.

So glad to welcome you here.

MaryJo

Maryjo - thanks for the post - sorry to hear about your brother - I hope his thai family is still all ok?
yes been here 20 years now - went to Buriram once on a trip looking for a girl I met here hoping to find her - ended up finding her grandfather's house and meeting her grandfather and of course she wasn't there - anyway - have calmed down now since then and that was when i first got here
yes all is relative - less money but things are cheaper - took me a few years here to get up and over - still not making much money - say 30 thou usd per year - but income tax in 15% - my house mortgage is 300 usd per month - electric is 100 usd per month = water 6 usd per month - hi speed internet 30 usd per month - so you get the idea
yes i have a work permit otherwise hard to stay here for the long term - but working for a good thai company - long story -
if you ever make it over here - can help you out - in the north burbs of bangkok - 45 kms to downtown - which is not far enough away - Buriram is nice country - anywhere out of bangkok is all small towns and farmland towns - next biggest city is 200,000 after bangkok;'s 20 mill in the greater area - aarrgghh
anyway - yes the real life of JC is really kicking my butt - totally amazing and who is the author of the book 4 anyway - doesn't say like the other books like whoever signs some of the books - anyway - doesn't matter as it reads TRUE and am getting it down

will post more soon but really this UB is all Light and Life and big Spirit and full on TRUTH I am getting - checking from my history but am not getting any non truth stuff - some hard to understand stuff i books 1-2-3 but wow - very heavy and good straight on Spirit and Truth from what I am getting

will post more soon ! thanks Maryjo !

just got up to paper 130 or 128-129-130 when JC s out of the home life in Nazareth and on the journey with the indians - amazing stuff ! Paper 130.2.8 page and 130.2.9 he talks about will of god vs will of man and on 2.9 about the dog and if a soul or not - just nails it - all about here with buddhism and reincarnating into animals or lower forms if you don;t live a good life - i have been hearing here now for 18 years - will have to try and explain to the wife and grandfish that this is not a correct or good form of thought - oh well - some points of buddhism are good but the reincarnation thing or where do we go when we die? question has been answered for me reading the UB book - whoa - even MY grandpa Wright asked me that question when i was 17 yrs old or so - and Grandma Wright had been reading the bible for 50+ years and Grandpa actually grew up with Christian Science but didn't read much bible as far as I know - but Grandma sure did - every day and almost all day - anyway these last few papers are awesome - 130.2.9 at the top " unending progression of divine service"
anyway paper 130 is amazing - not trying to knock any religion here - but this paper just got rid of the idea of reincarnating for me - and in some other books it is Acension of the soul anyway which I did believe before - but the UB is making things very real and clear - how did they get this day by day replay of JC's life down like this is blowing me away anyway - the stories and teachings are right on and not in the bible - that is for sure - whoa

and page 130.5.1 is great - Truth - Knowledge vs Evil - and why there is "evil" in the world - sounds like because we just aren't spritual enough in our own thinking - so that maybe allows evil to show up - seems like what is happening on earth today - great teachings tho in the paper 130 wow - was trying to get thru to the baptism and all - but heavy reading here as well and lots to comprehend - having to read some paragraphs over a time or three - awesome ! I wish i could remember more of the sentences to be able to write about them properly aarrgghh anyway - onwards !! - totally amazing teachings and sayings here in the UB on JC...was like they rewrote a whole filmed movie with all this detail... ok I know this is from higher beings relating all this - but is just amazing stuff !

Keep in mind that not everyone will connect with the revelation as it appears that is happening with you.
Old deep rooted beliefs have value, not to be taken away from anybody. Find the real value and build on it.
I’m not clever with introducing people to the book. Can’t relate any success stories with introducing anyone to the revelation, wife, kids, relatives, friends. Even damaged some relationships along the way.

Greetings Steve!

I could not begin to count the Ah Ha and WOW moments I had reading the UB the first time, still having them after many, many readings and decades later. So many preconceptions and beliefs confirmed, so many dots connected, so many mysteries explained, so many falsehoods revealed, so brilliantly cohesive and comprehensible and logical....OF COURSE!! You will be delighted to know that no matter how many times you read this text, still will new meanings emerge from old facts as the contents begin to transform from many concepts into a singular perspective of universe reality that integrates all these many elements and all this history and all these personalities into a multi-dimensional tapestry and full throated orchestra presenting a completed symphony of power.

no sophist gives very wise counsel...allow me to reiterate. The UB teaches that all true religious experience is good and that people have profoundly important and fruitful religious experience without reality knowledge and even with false beliefs. Faith is not dependent upon knowledge of facts or the correctness of beliefs. We are not to judge primitive, evolutionary religions or the religious experience of primitive minds based on our own beliefs or knowledge (or false convictions and prejudices either).

Jesus did not attempt to correct or challenge or criticize that which was false in anyone's beliefs. He attempted to find that which was held in common and to recognize the light of faith in others and to promote that and encourage that and hold that sacred and something shared by us all. He taught his apostles to honor traditional religions and the traditions of religion for the faithful are faithful and thereby righteous in motive and intention and need no correction or coercion or conversion.

Indeed the Master once said it would be better to have a mill stone tied about one's neck and thrown into the sea that to take away the faith of another!! We are to be VERY careful not to belittle or diminish the flicker of faith in any other being....this is not love! It is self important and evil! Be focused on how to add to, not subtract from! Or so Jesus taught us.

We are taught to ADD to the hope, trust, ideals, peace, confidence, and faith we find in others, no matter the underlying beliefs with which we may agree OR disagree. Our evangelism should be tempered by the sharing of the fruits of the spirit...not by demands for correction and conversions. Jesus did not begin a religion about Jesus - the Apostles did that. Jesus came to release us all from fear of damnation and a the myth and lie of an angry and vengeful God...the true gospel, the Jesusonian Gospel is simply that God loves us with a paternal and Divine affection and we are all his beloved children and that makes us all one family in God's creation and friendly universe!!

The UB is very complimentary to Buddhism and describes it as the most likely belief to adopt and adapt the Jesusonian Gospel (not Christianity) due to the truths learned so long ago by Lao Tsu and Siddhartha Guatama. Great and profound teachers of truth as described in the UB...share that with your wife!!

Finally, for now....the UB teaches that the reason there is so much evil in the world is the same reason as taught by the Buddhists....we reap what we sow...the karmic repercussions of poor choice. Evil is always a potential with free will creatures. We are free will creatures. The potential for evil is realized by the self choosing self importance over importance of others. It is also realized and unleased by immaturity, inexperience, and impatience as well as when anxiety, fear, anger, or greed impinge upon our being and our choosing. Lack of spirituality and religious experience is also the correct answer but both of those require experience in choosing and experiential wisdom from the prior errors/evils of less wise choosing to learn to choose better/wiser...and still better/wiser... and still even better and wiser.

Such experiential learning and wisdom is a long endeavor, merely begun in this material life on the planets of origin for the pilgrims of time. We have much to learn in this journey of perfecting. Karma was only later polluted and burdened by the notion of reincarnation (which does not exist)...don't throw the karma baby out with the reincarnation water!! Acts have consequences. Choices deliver repercussions...both the good and the contrasting bad....the better to learn thereby!

103:1.3 While your religion is a matter of personal experience, it is most important that you should be exposed to the knowledge of a vast number of other religious experiences (the diverse interpretations of other and diverse mortals) to the end that you may prevent your religious life from becoming egocentric—circumscribed, selfish, and unsocial.

103:1.5 That religionists have believed so much that was false does not invalidate religion because religion is founded on the recognition of values and is validated by the faith of personal religious experience. Religion, then, is based on experience and religious thought; theology, the philosophy of religion, is an honest attempt to interpret that experience. Such interpretative beliefs may be right or wrong, or a mixture of truth and error.

101:9.2 When you presume to sit in critical judgment on the primitive religion of man (or on the religion of primitive man), you should remember to judge such savages and to evaluate their religious experience in accordance with their enlightenment and status of conscience. Do not make the mistake of judging another's religion by your own standards of knowledge and truth.

94:6.3 Lao-tse built directly upon the concepts of the Salem traditions when he declared Tao to be the One First Cause of all creation. Lao was a man of great spiritual vision. He taught that man's eternal destiny was "everlasting union with Tao, Supreme God and Universal King." His comprehension of ultimate causation was most discerning, for he wrote: "Unity arises out of the Absolute Tao, and from Unity there appears cosmic Duality, and from such Duality, Trinity springs forth into existence, and Trinity is the primal source of all reality." "All reality is ever in balance between the potentials and the actuals of the cosmos, and these are eternally harmonized by the spirit of divinity." *

94:6.4 Lao-tse also made one of the earliest presentations of the doctrine of returning good for evil: " Goodness begets goodness, but to the one who is truly good, evil also begets goodness."

94:7.7 When proclaimed at its best, Gautama's gospel of universal salvation, free from sacrifice, torture, ritual, and priests, was a revolutionary and amazing doctrine for its time. And it came surprisingly near to being a revival of the Salem gospel. It brought succor to millions of despairing souls, and notwithstanding its grotesque perversion during later centuries, it still persists as the hope of millions of human beings.

94:7.8 Siddhartha taught far more truth than has survived in the modern cults bearing his name. Modern Buddhism is no more the teachings of Gautama Siddhartha than is Christianity the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.

94:8.3 The original gospel of Gautama was based on the four noble truths:

1. The noble truths of suffering.
2. The origins of suffering.
3. The destruction of suffering.
4. The way to the destruction of suffering

94:8.8 Closely linked to the doctrine of suffering and the escape therefrom was the philosophy of the Eightfold Path: right views, aspirations, speech, conduct, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and contemplation. It was not Gautama's intention to attempt to destroy all effort, desire, and affection in the escape from suffering; rather was his teaching designed to picture to mortal man the futility of pinning all hope and aspirations entirely on temporal goals and material objectives. It was not so much that love of one's fellows should be shunned as that the true believer should also look beyond the associations of this material world to the realities of the eternal future.

94:9.6 Buddhism is a living, growing religion today because it succeeds in conserving many of the highest moral values of its adherents. It promotes calmness and self-control, augments serenity and happiness, and does much to prevent sorrow and mourning. Those who believe this philosophy live better lives than many who do not.

I was raised in and by the Bible but it was my studies in Zen that made the UB so serenely true to me...satori experienced by the discovery of discernment and inspired insights into the nature of being, becoming, and reality itself!! The enlightening experience of the embrace of knowledge and truth that transforms my being and my perspective of all that is. I am very grateful to the Buddhist traditions that originated by and from the Salem missionaries, one of the five epochal revelations to our world - the UB claims to be #5.

By the way, the authors of Part IV claim to have attended and witnessed the events presented in Part IV.

Thanks for sharing your journey!!

Bradly :D  :!: 8)

who is the author of the book 4 anyway

This group of papers was sponsored by a commission of twelve Urantia midwayers acting under the supervision of a Melchizedek revelatory director.

The basis of this narrative was supplied by a secondary midwayer who was onetime assigned to the superhuman watchcare of the Apostle Andrew.

Quote:
121:8.12 (1343.1) [Acknowledgment: In carrying out my commission to restate the teachings and retell the doings of Jesus of Nazareth, I have drawn freely upon all sources of record and planetary information. My ruling motive has been to prepare a record which will not only be enlightening to the generation of men now living, but which may also be helpful to all future generations. From the vast store of information made available to me, I have chosen that which is best suited to the accomplishment of this purpose. As far as possible I have derived my information from purely human sources. Only when such sources failed, have I resorted to those records which are superhuman. When ideas and concepts of Jesus’ life and teachings have been acceptably expressed by a human mind, I invariably gave preference to such apparently human thought patterns. Although I have sought to adjust the verbal expression the better to conform to our concept of the real meaning and the true import of the Master’s life and teachings, as far as possible, I have adhered to the actual human concept and thought pattern in all my narratives. I well know that those concepts which have had origin in the human mind will prove more acceptable and helpful to all other human minds. When unable to find the necessary concepts in the human records or in human expressions, I have next resorted to the memory resources of my own order of earth creatures, the midwayers. And when that secondary source of information proved inadequate, I have unhesitatingly resorted to the superplanetary sources of information.

121:8.13 (1343.2) The memoranda which I have collected, and from which I have prepared this narrative of the life and teachings of Jesus—aside from the memory of the record of the Apostle Andrew—embrace thought gems and superior concepts of Jesus’ teachings assembled from more than two thousand human beings who have lived on earth from the days of Jesus down to the time of the inditing of these revelations, more correctly restatements. The revelatory permission has been utilized only when the human record and human concepts failed to supply an adequate thought pattern. My revelatory commission forbade me to resort to extrahuman sources of either information or expression until such a time as I could testify that I had failed in my efforts to find the required conceptual expression in purely human sources.

121:8.14 (1343.3) While I, with the collaboration of my eleven associate fellow midwayers and under the supervision of the Melchizedek of record, have portrayed this narrative in accordance with my concept of its effective arrangement and in response to my choice of immediate expression, nevertheless, the majority of the ideas and even some of the effective expressions which I have thus utilized had their origin in the minds of the men of many races who have lived on earth during the intervening generations, right on down to those who are still alive at the time of this undertaking. In many ways I have served more as a collector and editor than as an original narrator. I have unhesitatingly appropriated those ideas and concepts, preferably human, which would enable me to create the most effective portraiture of Jesus’ life, and which would qualify me to restate his matchless teachings in the most strikingly helpful and universally uplifting phraseology. In behalf of the Brotherhood of the United Midwayers of Urantia, I most gratefully acknowledge our indebtedness to all sources of record and concept which have been hereinafter utilized in the further elaboration of our restatement of Jesus’ life on earth.]

Makalu - Bradley and No Sophist - thanks very much for the replies - yes I knew yesterday typing that bit about buddhism was wrong - ouch - not trying to influence the wife or ther family members here - to be honest tho - I did mention quickly that i am reading this book that mentions that our souls do go up and onwards instead of coming back as a dog or cat because we do have souls - anyway - will refrain from preaching anything in future I think - I do like the book 94.7.8 bit - will have to read that book 94 soon and that would go for all religions here on earth now anyway - I know JC didn't start a religion - he just wanted men/women to be and think more spiritually... ok got it - really appreciate all your comments and UB notes - yes I did read the paper 121 at the beginning of book 4 and then forgot it while getting further into the book - aarrghh - I just can't believe the amount of detail that is in book 4 ! well am believing it now tho

ok got it tho - will tread very lightly on discussing with my thai wife - tried to uplift more but was a brief comment that I think we go upwards in the soul vs coming back as as animal - which is a big deal here so yes I better be careful - lots of good Buddism here but also lots have gotten sidetracked as well - but not for me to judge yes - I agree for sure ! whoa - ok thanks much you all for the good posts ! I am starting to get the feeling that there is a vast array of infinitely higher beings all over and everywhere now in the Spirit... kind of is making me think more before speaking and doing something bad or not good so much more - or just thinking more about things i might do or say
anyway - thanks much for your posts !

ok reading 94.9.5 top of the page - verse 18 and 19 whoa - because here in TL now that is almost all you hear - superstitions, magic rituals and fear of ghosts or demons - unfortunately - that has become very big here now - thai movies- soap operas on tv - anyway - i am NOT judging - just making an observation - and is also bad in other countries as well soooo - yes even at one big wat/temple here - you can buy your way out of reincarnation for a sum of bt 100,000 bt i heard - about $3000 usd 5 5 5

anyway - yes more of an observer here now for 19 years - just in the north burbs of bangkok - not a ton of english spoken so some trouble with speaking and my thai is not good enough for philosophy or religious discussions anyway - even if I wanted to - so I am fairly harmless with disturbing any karma - just need to get myself more spiritual and will rub off ( and NOT preaching anything!) on the family/wife and the 5 and 10 yr old grandkids we are looking after - the wife's family is close by anyway - just we had the better way of taking the kids to school with the daughter looking after the 4 yr old son - in fact her 2 sisters stayed over at the house last night helping out with all 3 grandfish
anyway ...also of note - the chinese spirit houses are here in thailand - like everyone has a little chinese spirit house small or big at their house or big ones at every company as well ... covering all bases - Bhudda and spirits ...aarrghh and also - thai calendars are using the buddha year - now is 2562 year of big B - 562 years - or now i read in UB - 6 bc for JC august 21 6 bc....so yes 95+% buddha here - but things have been skewed yes - just like christian religions
also - when i read the 6 bc birth of JC on august 21 - my dad died august 21 2016 I noted... was interesting ...
anyway - back to my reading !

sorry to be posting so much - well not sorry but - hope I am not being a pain 5 5 5 got my friend to order a UB book - only 16.95 +5 bucks to ship to thailand - paypal or whatever as i don;t have a credit card - so should have paperback version in a week or so

so was jumping around tonight when i got home on the different books
13.2.13 - local universe - ok I was wondering - why put life of JC as book 4 only by reading the life of the Creator Son on urantia...etc in this paragraph
anyway - was thinking after first reading parts of book 1 (100 pages or so) and getting totally flabbergasted at the amount of info and names and rules and all the good stuff - but also getting blown fuses in my brain just by the amount of info - and i read a lot of stuff that I thought I could comprehend this UB stuff - but book 1 is like totally super heavy reading - anyway - am thinking for sure to read book 4-3-2-1 now - or after book 4 will jump around and read the other books - so if someone read all 4 books and more than once each and got it all down - you should be able to say Hey - I know what is going on a little bit -
one question - with all the Spiritual beings being talked about in all these millions of inhabited worlds - many must still be physical beings right? just on "higher level" planets - some with less war and more peace and more spiritual beings living on them - planets that are not fighting and warring all over like here (not to mention any countries by the way - have to keep the military industrial complex making money with more ammo-bombs-etc etc ... - hmmm who could that be? ) - but still all "evolutionary" planets - so on top of the spiritual beings it seems - must also be millions of planets with still physical beings that are going onwards and upwards in the quest for God and the Spirit... just thinking out loud - but above the earth level - anyway - I better get back to reading and not thinking too much tonight - all will be revealed after reading the UB - anyway was born in usa in 1958 - canada in 1972 and thailand 2000
but none of that matters if you are not getting more spiritual every day
aarrghh - gotta get to JC and John the Baptist
will go back to the heavy stuff after

paper 9.2.3 paragraph "there exists the connection of the Thought Adjusters with the Universal Father"
also to note - am getting big vibes every day to read more of the UB ... hmmm ... instead of reading all my news websites - must be a good thing - dang
so in my reading - say the New testament of the bible is very limited in personal scope to book 4 in the UB and I grew up reading the Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy in Christian Science - so book 1 is actually making real sense - just more names and lots more details (that may or may not matter) than CS.. but whoa ... as well as how book 4 is totally way more detailed than the new testament in the good old book - double whoa
anyway - thought I needed to relate this ... but super heavy reading book 1 - but certainly is readable and understandable - just picked a few more pages out to check my theory ... whoa
