Hi Gremlin, Very nice! :) Just a few comments here.. In the top-menu, under the main item "Urantia Book", the sub-item "Urantia Book Online" is placed at the bottom of the popup-list. I had trouble finding it! I would certainly place it at the top of the list, directly followed by an extra sub-item "Urantia Book Search Engine", to go directly to the start page of the search engine (which provides extra information on how to search)..

Hi Gremlin, I (still) have the following problems with the search engine. If you read The Urantia Book online (Urantia Book Online) and enter a search term in the second search box at the top of the page, then you get the correct TUB paragraphs in the old single-screen style. If you then click Search again, you go to the start page of the search engine (with the original search term lost). If you there enter a new search term in the old single-screen style box, it doesn’t work. If you enter the same search term in the new split-screen style box, then you get the correct results in split-screen style. If you there click Search again (or enter a new search term and click Search again), you get an error message: Please enter your search term. The only way to continue your search from there in the new split-screen style is to scroll all the way down to the link Search The Urantia Book, which gets you back to the start page of the search engine..

I also noticed that entered search terms are no longer marked (in red) in the search results as they used to be, which was a nice search aid. The marked results could be searched again with the browser’s own search tool, marking both searches red and yellow respectively..

Hi Gremlin. The search engine doesn’t improve. It seems to be even worse now.. If you type in a search term in the 'new split screen style' search box, it consistently gives a 'File not found' error. And if you type in (e.g.) the literal search string "master spirits" (including the quotes) in one of the 'old single screen style' search boxes, then you get the first 10 results (page 1 of 19). If you then click 'Next page' or 'Show all results', you go to the start page of the search engine. And the literal search string "ancients of days" (including the quotes) gives only 1 result (92:3.5) while there should be many more.. :?

A 'logical' search for "master AND spirit" or "ancients AND days" (without the quotes), appears to work fine in the 'old style' search (and again gives a 'Page not found' error in the 'new style' search). But still the search terms are not marked red in the search results.. :cry:

And why are there 2 search boxes (called 'Search' and 'Find') with identical functionality (the 'old single screen style' search) on almost every page of TruthBook.com and not a simple menu item to go directly to the start-page of the search engine? You still can only get there by clicking 'Search again' in a search, or by clicking the link at the bottom of the page..

Thanks for testing. Please keep testing, and continue sending us the bugs.

I have forwarded the above bugs on to the person coding away in the darkest depths of Mordor.

The reason you sometimes see 'Search' and sometimes see 'Find' is that 'Find' is what one sees when one is viewing the site on a vertical hand-held device (like a cellphone), or if one narrows one's browser sufficiently. ......errrrr, because it has fewer letters than 'Search'.

If one looks in the Footer (that is on every page), one will see "Search The Urantia Book". Yes, it is not prominent. They are still experimenting with layout stuff.

Hi Gremlin,

It appears that since the recent move of the forum to the http://www.truthbook.com/forums domain, something's wrong with attachments. Either they can't be found (such as in the first post of Kicoversz here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4727&p=59037&sid=424e15b27bb63b9d4539fea4af64eefd#p59037), or they are not correctly displayed (such as in the first post on this page: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3589&p=43028&sid=424e15b27bb63b9d4539fea4af64eefd#p43028).

Also, long internet links are not automatically shortened anymore (see the above links)..

Ow, and only single-word search terms are now colored red in the search results of the search-engine. When you enter master AND spirit or "master spirit" (including the quotes), then the search terms are not colored red in the results..

Errrr.....ja. So, here's the thing: In the forum move, the attachments got corrupted. The people who did the move went back - yesterday - and redid the export/import of the table that contains the attachments. To no avail. It's crocked.

Can you (and others) please re-upload any image attachments you might have made before. (You do this by editing your old posts that contain attachments.)

Regarding the search engine: Someone is working on the issue of highlighting. They've been doing it intermittently between other jobs. I trust it will be done. I am just not sure of the date.

Wow, that’s bad. Are you sure the table can’t be recovered from another backup? And why only this table? And a corrupt MySql table can be repaired with PHPMyAdmin or the myisamchk command. There are also third party tools for repairing MySql databases..

Anyway, I’ll try to re-upload my own attachments (if I can find them)..

Hi Gremlin, I didn't try all options, but it seems the highlighting in the search-engine basically works now. Thanks! :smile: I think I see what the problem/concern is though. Highlighting text in the search results is a heavy load for your server. Enter the search term 'master spirit' (without the quotes). It takes quite some time for the server to respond. It has to search the entire book and (logically) insert highlight-tags into thousands of lines of text. But that’s not the problem. If you now click the link 'show all results', at the bottom of the initial result-page, it will take ages to load the page and it may crash your browser.

I think the reason could be that instead of simple <font color="red"/> html-tags, your software inserts an entire class <b class="redtext"/> in order to highlight the search terms in the search results. The browser may then have to access a CSS file and search for the class definition thousands of times to render the page.

I noticed that the paging mechanism for the search-results is gone (which is fine). My guess is that it somehow interfered with the highlighting. And possibly the problem with highlighting (very) large result sets, can be solved by simply changing the literal string insertion <b class="redtext"/> into <font color="red"/> in the php code..

Hey Gremlin! I don’t know what your programmer is doing, but the search-engine is now almost useless. Try and search for "supreme being" or supreme AND being, and click 'show all results'. Does he EVER test anything for himself? How hard can it be? And if he can’t fix the problems, then tell him to turn off the highlighting of search results. That way at least the search-engine will work (I hope)..
