Greetings Friends,

Because Truthbook.com was created as a show case for the teachings of The Urantia Book with an emphasis on Part IV, The Life and Teachings of Jesus, we feel it is necessary to offer the following guidelines and rules for people wishing to participate on them.

Administrators and moderators will be visiting these boards daily to ensure civility and harmony and keep them free of SPAM.

Discussion Board Guidelines:

We welcome individuals of all faiths to participate on this board and to share their beliefs however; we cannot accept the spamming of religious philosophies here. If, as one who participates in the discussions on this board, you wish to share a teaching that is inspiring to you, we welcome that. We welcome open discussion of beliefs but anyone exhibiting a contentious or derisive spirit will be banned form the board. Anyone who comes here just wanting to start an argument will most likely not last long. There are plenty of other boards where flaming and nastiness goes on, we wonít allow it here. We will do everything in our power to keep the tenor of these boards kind and tolerant and conducive of an open and loving exchange of ideas. Please remember to focus on the issue and not the personality.

Those who currently are Urantia Book students, we humbly ask that you keep the spirit of this board, that being outreach for the Urantia teachings. While it is acceptable to share of other material that inspires you, please do not divert the focus of these boards to that material. You may offer links to other boards that have a different focus but keep the focus here primarily on The Urantia Book. We spend a great deal of time and effort drawing people to this site to find out about The Urantia Book and we are counting on those who have experience with these teachings to be available to answer their honest questions.

Ultimately we strive for self-governance here, as described in The Urantia Book. ìThat which governs least governs best.î We also strive for sincere fairness. Please let tact and tolerance rule here, so that everyone who visits here will benefit from these discussions. Having said that, we also understand that self-governance (i.e. self-mastery and self-control) are human ideals most of the time and not human reality, therefore, following are the rules for posting on this site.

Note to Urantia Book readers who use these boards. The following Urantia movement related controversies are banned from discussion on these boards:
The Teaching Mission
The Copyright
Organizational Criticisms

If you wish to discuss these issues with other readers we recommend that you join www.UBRON.org.

Thanks for helping us keep these boards based on Urantia Book outreach and free of controversy!

15. Create multiple accounts. Users who attempt this may have their privileges revoked.
16. Defraud or deceive our members. This may result in your account being suspended.

Hello Friends,

We thought the following article (excerpted and linked below) has great validity as guidelines to posters here at Truthbook.com.

The Link:
These guidelines have been extracted, edited and adapted from: How To give negative feedback properly, F. John Reh, Your Guide to Management. Full article available here.

Article Excerpts & Guidlines:
“Jane, you ignorant slut.” No one who heard Dan Aykroyd make that statement on the early Saturday Night Live TV shows had any doubt that he was about to strongly disagree with whatever Jane Curtin had just said. The problem was he was going to disagree not with what she had said, but with who she is. That’s not the way to give criticism or negative feedback.

Here's how to go about offering criticism and differing opinions or points of view to posts made in the Truthbook.com Spiritual Chat Room:

1. Begin by getting your emotions under control. Critiqueing someone else's ideas or opinions when you're hurt, angry, or upset, it's all too easy to post something you don't really mean or to otherwise react poorly. If, later on, you find that you've overreacted you may feel compelled to retract your own words, the polite, appropriate thing to do after you've made a mistake.

2. Focus on the posts words and ideas, not on the person. You create an immediate barrier when you criticize the person, not only with them but also with the other readers of the discussion. Focus instead on the positive points you want to get across (which sounds like something Jesus might expect of us).

3. Be specific. It does no good to tell someone "you have a bad attitude". You need to identify specific things the person said in the post you're criticizing if you want them to understand.

4. Be timely. Negative feedback should be given as soon as possible after it's posted.

5. Be calm. If your words are offensive the other person will become defensive and won't hear what you want to tell them.

6. Reaffirm your faith in the person. Tell them that you still have faith in them; it's just their opinion you want to address.

7. Stop talking. After you have told the person what specific, recent expressions were, in your opinion, inappropriate, and why, stop talking. Give the other person an opportunity to respond to or refute your criticism. Listen to what they have to say. Posts that continue to beat a dead horse are subject to removal.

8. Get over it. After you've given the criticism and received a reply, move on. Harboring ill will toward the person because you think they're wrong is nonproductive. Recognize that we all make mistakes from time to time.

These are guidelines since it's apparent we need to be reminded now and then how to interact on the Truthbook discussion board. Posts that step over these guidelines are apt to be tagged with: "[This is a JYIS post. Please review Posters Guidelines - admin] " warning from the moderator or from site admin. As some measure of politeness is expected here an apology posted to the target of the criticism by the offender would be in order.

Brief biography of Jane Curtin available here.
