In Jim's personal testimony above, he declares: "Jesus didn’t die on the cross to save us from our sins. He died on the cross because of our sins."

Jim's preaching and testimony is so very Christian and so not Jesusonian. Let those with ears discern fact and truth. For it is a lie and great deception and manipulation to declare that the Creator Son "died on the cross because of our sins."

=; :-$ :-&

121:6.5 (1339.1) Many, but not all, of Philo’s inconsistencies resulting from an effort to combine Greek mystical philosophy and Roman Stoic doctrines with the legalistic theology of the Hebrews, Paul recognized and wisely eliminated from his pre-Christian basic theology. Philo led the way for Paul more fully to restore the concept of the Paradise Trinity, which had long been dormant in Jewish theology. In only one matter did Paul fail to keep pace with Philo or to transcend the teachings of this wealthy and educated Jew of Alexandria, and that was the doctrine of the atonement; Philo taught deliverance from the doctrine of forgiveness only by the shedding of blood. He also possibly glimpsed the reality and presence of the Thought Adjusters more clearly than did Paul. But Paul’s theory of original sin, the doctrines of hereditary guilt and innate evil and redemption therefrom, was partially Mithraic in origin, having little in common with Hebrew theology, Philo’s philosophy, or Jesus’ teachings. Some phases of Paul’s teachings regarding original sin and the atonement were original with himself.

92:3.2 (1005.4) Religion has always been largely a matter of rites, rituals, observances, ceremonies, and dogmas. It has usually become tainted with that persistently mischief-making error, the chosen-people delusion. The cardinal religious ideas of incantation, inspiration, revelation, propitiation, repentance, atonement, intercession, sacrifice, prayer, confession, worship, survival after death, sacrament, ritual, ransom, salvation, redemption, covenant, uncleanness, purification, prophecy, original sin—they all go back to the early times of primordial ghost fear.

89:4.6 (978.3) Surrounded by so many sensitive spirits and grasping gods, primitive man was face to face with such a host of creditor deities that it required all the priests, ritual, and sacrifices throughout an entire lifetime to get him out of spiritual debt. The doctrine of original sin, or racial guilt, started every person out in serious debt to the spirit powers.

89:4.7 (978.4) Gifts and bribes are given to men; but when tendered to the gods, they are described as being dedicated, made sacred, or are called sacrifices....

74:8.13 (838.5) The Christian teachers perpetuated the belief in the fiat creation of the human race, and all this led directly to the formation of the hypothesis of a onetime golden age of utopian bliss and the theory of the fall of man or superman which accounted for the nonutopian condition of society. These outlooks on life and man’s place in the universe were at best discouraging since they were predicated upon a belief in retrogression rather than progression, as well as implying a vengeful Deity, who had vented wrath upon the human race in retribution for the errors of certain onetime planetary administrators.

75:8.2 (846.1) There has been no “fall of man.” The history of the human race is one of progressive evolution, and the Adamic bestowal left the world peoples greatly improved over their previous biologic condition. ...

Me here: Such an important fact and truth and critical concept presented in the UB. Such primitive beliefs and claims should not be ignored here...of all places...a study group for new readers and long time students of the Revelation. Just sayin'.....

Those who praise and encourage Jim's claims and sermons should perhaps better discern their origins and meanings before declaring their value??!!

Every person here is having religious experience. None is more important or profound or meaningful to the believer having that experience than any other. One cannot give, lend, borrow, exchange, or copy any other's experience. By the fruits of the Spirit shall true believers be known...and not by any words or professions.

Jim's experience is important to Jim. As it should be. His beliefs are important to him as well. So be it. But it is the Revelation we study here. So must all declarations and beliefs be compared and contrasted with the UB.

Jim claims an ability and intention to teach the UB to others, but without the UB itself present or presented. A most dangerous and prideful aspiration. Another gospel ABOUT the Good News Gospel given in book form...for obvious reasons.

The fact and reality is that the UB contains the message intended by the authors for our world. The UB is the messenger...and does not need interpreters or preachers or priests. Those who translate and disseminate the Epochal Revelation are the modern missionaries who carry the Good News around the world. Those who then discover and share this Good News with each other become community.

Those seeking converts and congregation do not understand the Good News given to us. Their sermons only distort the true gift of Epochal Revelation. Certainly is the proclamation above such a distortion.

Jim's multiple posts above are but confirmations and continuations of many prior posts over the years. Jim has a very dark perspective of our world and the "messy mess" we are in due to Lucifer's folly. This is not what the UB teaches at all. The rebellion is over. The so called mess has resulted in over 1000 times more good than bad...so far. Overcoming the effects of rebellion is in the most capable hands of Deity and the Most Highs who have been so very successful.

Jim claims its up to him....and you....to defeat that and those who are already defeated!! Not true. All anxiety must be abandoned. Worry not and fear not...not for yourself and not for our world. Read the Book!!!

The UB is gift of Divine Assurance and inspiration and Good and Welcome News!!! Fear Not!! Be not anxious for today or tomorrow. We are God's beloved children on the Shrine of Nebadon.

I am so grateful for the opportunity Jim offers us all here to consider the function of repentance and forgiveness as presented in the UB. Very important issues. My own take is quite different from Jim's I think. It appears to me that Jim promotes Peter's mistaken beliefs presented below.

I think it wise to distinguish sin, as a deliberate and knowing choice of wrong doing and disobedience, from the evil/errors of ignorance and inexperience and immaturity. Jim posts a very illuminating quote on the subject.

174:1.1 (1898.1) For several days Peter and James had been engaged in discussing their differences of opinion about the Master’s teaching regarding the forgiveness of sin. They had both agreed to lay the matter before Jesus, and Peter embraced this occasion as a fitting opportunity for securing the Master’s counsel. Accordingly, Simon Peter broke in on the conversation dealing with the differences between praise and worship, by asking: “Master, James and I are not in accord regarding your teachings having to do with the forgiveness of sin. James claims you teach that the Father forgives us even before we ask him, and I maintain that repentance and confession must precede the forgiveness. Which of us is right? what do you say?”

174:1.2 (1898.2) After a short silence Jesus looked significantly at all four and answered: “My brethren, you err in your opinions because you do not comprehend the nature of those intimate and loving relations between the creature and the Creator, between man and God. You fail to grasp that understanding sympathy which the wise parent entertains for his immature and sometimes erring child. It is indeed doubtful whether intelligent and affectionate parents are ever called upon to forgive an average and normal child. Understanding relationships associated with attitudes of love effectively prevent all those estrangements which later necessitate the readjustment of repentance by the child with forgiveness by the parent.

174:1.3 (1898.3) “A part of every father lives in the child. The father enjoys priority and superiority of understanding in all matters connected with the child-parent relationship. The parent is able to view the immaturity of the child in the light of the more advanced parental maturity, the riper experience of the older partner. With the earthly child and the heavenly Father, the divine parent possesses infinity and divinity of sympathy and capacity for loving understanding. Divine forgiveness is inevitable; it is inherent and inalienable in God’s infinite understanding, in his perfect knowledge of all that concerns the mistaken judgment and erroneous choosing of the child. Divine justice is so eternally fair that it unfailingly embodies understanding mercy.

Me here: The text posted does NOT say that forgiveness or mercy requires repentance or that repentance is required for the immaturity of human error/evil. It says that forgiveness is a function of the reality of God's relationship with his children.

Repentance is for the deliberately sinful and rebellious who have hardened their hearts and forsaken the child-parent connection.

Truly must we understand the teachings regarding the profound differences between evil and sin to understand the teachings Jim has shared here. Jim apparently preaches and believes we are all horrible sinners cut off from God. This is not true. Perhaps Jim needs repentance...that is for him to know. But it's not okay for anyone to proclaim the relationship of ANY OTHER being with God and the Spirit within.

And it defies the Papers to believe or claim that the tadpoles of Urantia are inherently sinful and require redemption. This is NOT what Jesus believed or taught nor what the UB teaches either.

Jesus said:

148:4.8 (1660.7) “Men are, indeed, by nature evil, but not necessarily sinful. The new birth—the baptism of the spirit—is essential to deliverance from evil and necessary for entrance into the kingdom of heaven, but none of this detracts from the fact that man is the son of God. Neither does this inherent presence of potential evil mean that man is in some mysterious way estranged from the Father in heaven so that, as an alien, foreigner, or stepchild, he must in some manner seek for legal adoption by the Father.
All such notions are born, first, of your misunderstanding of the Father and, second, of your ignorance of the origin, nature, and destiny of man.

150:5.5 (1683.2) In summing up his final statement, Jesus said: “You cannot buy salvation; you cannot earn righteousness. Salvation is the gift of God, and righteousness is the natural fruit of the spirit-born life of sonship in the kingdom. You are not to be saved because you live a righteous life; rather is it that you live a righteous life because you have already been saved, have recognized sonship as the gift of God and service in the kingdom as the supreme delight of life on earth. When men believe this gospel, which is a revelation of the goodness of God, they will be led to voluntary repentance of all known sin. Realization of sonship is incompatible with the desire to sin. Kingdom believers hunger for righteousness and thirst for divine perfection.”

140:10.1 (1584.4) That evening while teaching in the house, for it had begun to rain, Jesus talked at great length, trying to show the twelve what they must be, not what they must do. They knew only a religion that imposed the doing of certain things as the means of attaining righteousness—salvation. But Jesus would reiterate, “In the kingdom you must be righteous in order to do the work.” Many times did he repeat, “Be you therefore perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” All the while was the Master explaining to his bewildered apostles that the salvation which he had come to bring to the world was to be had only by believing, by simple and sincere faith. Said Jesus: “John preached a baptism of repentance, sorrow for the old way of living. You are to proclaim the baptism of fellowship with God. Preach repentance to those who stand in need of such teaching, but to those already seeking sincere entrance to the kingdom, open the doors wide and bid them enter into the joyous fellowship of the sons of God.” But it was a difficult task to persuade these Galilean fishermen that, in the kingdom, being righteous, by faith, must precede doing righteousness in the daily life of the mortals of earth.

140:10.2 (1584.5) Another great handicap in this work of teaching the twelve was their tendency to take highly idealistic and spiritual principles of religious truth and remake them into concrete rules of personal conduct. Jesus would present to them the beautiful spirit of the soul’s attitude, but they insisted on translating such teachings into rules of personal behavior. Many times, when they did make sure to remember what the Master said, they were almost certain to forget what he did not say. But they slowly assimilated his teaching because Jesus was all that he taught. What they could not gain from his verbal instruction, they gradually acquired by living with him.

140:10.3 (1585.1) It was not apparent to the apostles that their Master was engaged in living a life of spiritual inspiration for every person of every age on every world of a far-flung universe. Notwithstanding what Jesus told them from time to time, the apostles did not grasp the idea that he was doing a work on this world but for all other worlds in his vast creation. Jesus lived his earth life on Urantia, not to set a personal example of mortal living for the men and women of this world, but rather to create a high spiritual and inspirational ideal for all mortal beings on all worlds.

140:10.4 (1585.2) This same evening Thomas asked Jesus: “Master, you say that we must become as little children before we can gain entrance to the Father’s kingdom, and yet you have warned us not to be deceived by false prophets nor to become guilty of casting our pearls before swine. Now, I am honestly puzzled. I cannot understand your teaching.” Jesus replied to Thomas: “How long shall I bear with you! Ever you insist on making literal all that I teach. When I asked you to become as little children as the price of entering the kingdom, I referred not to ease of deception, mere willingness to believe, nor to quickness to trust pleasing strangers. What I did desire that you should gather from the illustration was the child-father relationship. You are the child, and it is your Father’s kingdom you seek to enter. There is present that natural affection between every normal child and its father which insures an understanding and loving relationship, and which forever precludes all disposition to bargain for the Father’s love and mercy. And the gospel you are going forth to preach has to do with a salvation growing out of the faith-realization of this very and eternal child-father relationship.”

140:10.5 (1585.3) The one characteristic of Jesus’ teaching was that the morality of his philosophy originated in the personal relation of the individual to God—this very child-father relationship. Jesus placed emphasis on the individual, not on the race or nation. While eating supper, Jesus had the talk with Matthew in which he explained that the morality of any act is determined by the individual’s motive. Jesus’ morality was always positive. The golden rule as restated by Jesus demands active social contact; the older negative rule could be obeyed in isolation. Jesus stripped morality of all rules and ceremonies and elevated it to majestic levels of spiritual thinking and truly righteous living.

140:10.6 (1585.4) This new religion of Jesus was not without its practical implications, but whatever of practical political, social, or economic value there is to be found in his teaching is the natural outworking of this inner experience of the soul as it manifests the fruits of the spirit in the spontaneous daily ministry of genuine personal religious experience.

3:5.15 (52.1) Throughout the universe, every unit is regarded as a part of the whole. Survival of the part is dependent on co-operation with the plan and purpose of the whole, the wholehearted desire and perfect willingness to do the Father’s divine will. The only evolutionary world without error (the possibility of unwise judgment) would be a world without free intelligence. In the Havona universe there are a billion perfect worlds with their perfect inhabitants, but evolving man must be fallible if he is to be free. Free and inexperienced intelligence cannot possibly at first be uniformly wise. The possibility of mistaken judgment (evil) becomes sin only when the human will consciously endorses and knowingly embraces a deliberate immoral judgment.

16:7.7 (193.6) Man’s choosing between good and evil is influenced, not only by the keenness of his moral nature, but also by such influences as ignorance, immaturity, and delusion. A sense of proportion is also concerned in the exercise of virtue because evil may be perpetrated when the lesser is chosen in the place of the greater as a result of distortion or deception. The art of relative estimation or comparative measurement enters into the practice of the virtues of the moral realm.

54:0.1 (613.1) EVOLUTIONARY man finds it difficult fully to comprehend the significance and to grasp the meanings of evil, error, sin, and iniquity. Man is slow to perceive that contrastive perfection and imperfection produce potential evil; that conflicting truth and falsehood create confusing error; that the divine endowment of freewill choice eventuates in the divergent realms of sin and righteousness; that the persistent pursuit of divinity leads to the kingdom of God as contrasted with its continuous rejection, which leads to the domains of iniquity.

54:0.2 (613.2) The Gods neither create evil nor permit sin and rebellion. Potential evil is time-existent in a universe embracing differential levels of perfection meanings and values. Sin is potential in all realms where imperfect beings are endowed with the ability to choose between good and evil. The very conflicting presence of truth and untruth, fact and falsehood, constitutes the potentiality of error. The deliberate choice of evil constitutes sin; the willful rejection of truth is error; the persistent pursuit of sin and error is iniquity.

Mortals and celestials born or created in the universes of time and space are experiential beings we are taught. Wisdom and spiritization are the joint quest and prize of that existence and experience and the personal expression of that experience.

THIS is the very nature, fact, and function of universe reality. None and no one are sinful by nature or birth or tendency. Sin is always a knowing and deliberate choice. Knowing the better choice but deliberately choosing the wrong thing instead.

The only perfect worlds and beings are in Havona and not in time and space. Time and space are experiential where wisdom is gained over time by the learning process of trial and error. Wisdom is never complete, sudden, total, or finished by experiential beings.

Evil/error and sin BOTH create repercussions and consequences which are BOTH personal and social in effect. In a room full of infants, toddlers, or juveniles there will be many errors....and repercussions!!!! The same is true for worlds full of tadpoles who lack maturity, experience, and wisdom.

Does this reality result in collective or personal condemnation or planetary failure??? Does it mean children must repent for being childish? Does a child's progress, maturity, experience, and wisdom require certain beliefs, professions, confessions, contritions, and redemptions???!!! No...of course not.

The UB teaches that human life should be celebrated as a personalized religious experience and journey and all mortals with souls are engaged with and connected to the Divine Presence within and receive Divine Assurance and Affection in their journey and experience and the expressions of that experience.

195:5.8 (2075.11) Religion is designed to find those values in the universe which call forth faith, trust, and assurance; religion culminates in worship. Religion discovers for the soul those supreme values which are in contrast with the relative values discovered by the mind. Such superhuman insight can be had only through genuine religious experience.

195:5.9 (2075.12) A lasting social system without a morality predicated on spiritual realities can no more be maintained than could the solar system without gravity.

195:5.10 (2076.1) Do not try to satisfy the curiosity or gratify all the latent adventure surging within the soul in one short life in the flesh. Be patient! be not tempted to indulge in a lawless plunge into cheap and sordid adventure. Harness your energies and bridle your passions; be calm while you await the majestic unfolding of an endless career of progressive adventure and thrilling discovery.

195:5.11 (2076.2) In confusion over man’s origin, do not lose sight of his eternal destiny. Forget not that Jesus loved even little children, and that he forever made clear the great worth of human personality.

195:5.12 (2076.3) As you view the world, remember that the black patches of evil which you see are shown against a white background of ultimate good. You do not view merely white patches of good which show up miserably against a black background of evil.

195:5.13 (2076.4) When there is so much good truth to publish and proclaim, why should men dwell so much upon the evil in the world just because it appears to be a fact? The beauties of the spiritual values of truth are more pleasurable and uplifting than is the phenomenon of evil.

Me here: So....the process of evolutionary religion is the aggregation and integration of an inevitable and progressive series of elaborations and reiterations of prior beliefs and superstitions which are slowly adjusted and reoriented by personal and epochal revelation and the discernment of reason and results due to insight and inspiration.

While slow, by mortal standards of time, this evolutionary process is not chaotic or random or haphazard. It is a well managed process with inevitable outcomes with very specific progress steps and markers which include certain historical inflection points whereby progress may be stalled or reversed or accelerated...but never terminated. The Most Highs do indeed rule each evolutionary world and determine the form and timing of planetary ministry to ensure the inevitable success of all 7 trillion such worlds.

Every world's evolutionary path is unique and certainly unpredictable in its process of timing and progress being always affected by the freewill choices of its mortal populations and the wisdom and response abilities of all the celestial agents of the Most Highs. The ultimate result is inevitable but certainly the adventure of evolution is always unique and uncertain and unpredictable. Experiential wisdom is not uniform and is a function of personalized experience and expressions of its own evolutionary progress by celestial and mortal beings.

Our world is certainly proof that the failures of the celestial agents of the Most Highs do not and cannot prevent the evolutionary forces of time and ministry from inevitable progress. Even deliberate and locally catastrophic rebellion by such high agents as Planetary Princes and System Sovereigns or the failure and default of the planetary Adam and Eve or any other failure or iniquity or foolishness or immaturity by any celestial agents cannot stop evolutionary progress. Such teaching offers great comfort and generates great trust in those believers who have sufficient faith in God.

Before the 7 Adjutants are functional on any world, the Life Carriers and 5 lower Adjutants Spirits are the agents of planetary evolutionary progress. Again is each world of 7 trillion a unique evolutionary story which share traits and patterns and limits and potentials but no 2 have identical outcomes. This is also true once the work of the Life Carriers and the Adjutants achieve the planetary status of " inhabited".

The evolutionary process is similar in form and function one world to another but the results are unique to each adventure in evolution.

It is fascinating to consider that the same is true for every single personality and mind in time, both mortal and celestial!!!! Each freewill being has a totally unique and personalized experience. This is nearly incomprehensible to me. God has a direct connection and relationship with a countless number of minded and spiritizing personalities who each are having a very personal adventure in time and/or eternity.

The evolutionary adventure of experiential wisdom and progressive perfecting of BEING is the story we discover in the Papers. That discovery is itself a wondrous adventure. Or so I have found it to be.

Consideration of sin and redemption is best appreciated from a historical perspective of Christianity and ancient superstitions presented in Paper 89 - Sin, Sacrifice, and Atonement.

The UB teaches that belief in redemptions and the doctrines of atonement and sacrifice all originate as superstitions of primitive minds. Those who perpetuate such beliefs here do not represent the teachings of the UB or of the Master or the Jesusonian Gospel. Just sayin'.....

89:0.1 (974.1) PRIMITIVE man regarded himself as being in debt to the spirits, as standing in need of redemption. As the savages looked at it, in justice the spirits might have visited much more bad luck upon them. As time passed, this concept developed into the doctrine of sin and salvation. The soul was looked upon as coming into the world under forfeit—original sin. The soul must be ransomed; a scapegoat must be provided. The head-hunter, in addition to practicing the cult of skull worship, was able to provide a substitute for his own life, a scapeman.

10. Forgiveness of Sin

89:10.1 (984.4) Ancient man only attained consciousness of favor with God through sacrifice. Modern man must develop new techniques of achieving the self-consciousness of salvation. The consciousness of sin persists in the mortal mind, but the thought patterns of salvation therefrom have become outworn and antiquated. The reality of the spiritual need persists, but intellectual progress has destroyed the olden ways of securing peace and consolation for mind and soul.

89:10.2 (984.5) Sin must be redefined as deliberate disloyalty to Deity. There are degrees of disloyalty: the partial loyalty of indecision; the divided loyalty of confliction; the dying loyalty of indifference; and the death of loyalty exhibited in devotion to godless ideals.

89:10.3 (984.6) The sense or feeling of guilt is the consciousness of the violation of the mores; it is not necessarily sin. There is no real sin in the absence of conscious disloyalty to Deity.

89:10.4 (984.7) The possibility of the recognition of the sense of guilt is a badge of transcendent distinction for mankind. It does not mark man as mean but rather sets him apart as a creature of potential greatness and ever-ascending glory. Such a sense of unworthiness is the initial stimulus that should lead quickly and surely to those faith conquests which translate the mortal mind to the superb levels of moral nobility, cosmic insight, and spiritual living; thus are all the meanings of human existence changed from the temporal to the eternal, and all values are elevated from the human to the divine.

89:10.5 (984.8) The confession of sin is a manful repudiation of disloyalty, but it in no wise mitigates the time-space consequences of such disloyalty. But confession—sincere recognition of the nature of sin—is essential to religious growth and spiritual progress.

89:10.6 (985.1) The forgiveness of sin by Deity is the renewal of loyalty relations following a period of the human consciousness of the lapse of such relations as the consequence of conscious rebellion. The forgiveness does not have to be sought, only received as the consciousness of re-establishment of loyalty relations between the creature and the Creator. And all the loyal sons of God are happy, service-loving, and ever-progressive in the Paradise ascent.

Me here: So what of repentance? Hmmmmm.....

Jesus taught that the faith connection between Spirit and mortals delivers assurance of relationship and our sincere response to that connection and relationship delivers our eternal destiny. Repentance is simply a personal acknowledgement of our own knowing and willing stubbornness and defiance and disloyalty and self importance in that relationship with Deity.

It is an expression of being contrite and accepting God's affection and connection within. It is not required. It just happens as a function of sincerity and wisdom and the faith assurance relationship between personality and the source of personality...a function of reconnection after the sinful and knowingly and deliberate disloyalty disconnection of and by the freewill choices of mind. Or so I understand the teachings.

Such deliberate disloyalty to Deity is quite unusual, even rare, and mostly impossible for the tadpoles of time in my opinion. Repentance is simply a result of the faith connection and not the cause or any requirement for God's affection and connection.

137:8.17 (1537.4) “John came preaching repentance to prepare you for the kingdom; now have I come proclaiming faith, the gift of God, as the price of entrance into the kingdom of heaven. If you would but believe that my Father loves you with an infinite love, then you are in the kingdom of God.”

138:8.8 (1545.9) Jesus made plain to his apostles the difference between the repentance of so-called good works as taught by the Jews and the change of mind by faith—the new birth—which he required as the price of admission to the kingdom. He taught his apostles that faith was the only requisite to entering the Father’s kingdom. John had taught them “repentance—to flee from the wrath to come.” Jesus taught, “Faith is the open door for entering into the present, perfect, and eternal love of God.”....

144:6.9 (1625.6) And then was it voted that, in case of John’s death, the apostles of Jesus would begin to baptize with water as the emblem of the baptism of the divine Spirit. As to whether or not repentance should be attached to the preaching of baptism was left optional; no decision was made binding upon the group. John’s apostles preached, “Repent and be baptized.” Jesus’ apostles proclaimed, “Believe and be baptized.”

Personal religious experience, when true, delivers an assurance of our being, our personal relationship with God, our safety and survival, our purpose, and our destiny. This experience begins in-mind with the ministry of the Holy Spirit by the Adjutants delivering faith assurance and with the subsequent ministry of the God Fragment/Thought Adjuster by personal revelation delivering truth assurance and with the additional ministry (on our world since Pentecost) of the Spirit of Truth by the confirmation of both faith assurance and truth assurance. In addition to personal revelation, we are advised that we are periodically blessed by epochal revelation (or revelation to the world and all people upon the world, the UB being the 5th such to our world)....the purpose of which is to add facts and truths to eliminate the errors and reduce the confusions of evolutionary religion and science and the limitations of personal revelation.

All of these sources and forms of ministry to mortals deliver "assurance" in some form or another. It is our personal assurance that spiritualizes and spiritizes us and changes our personal motives, intentions, priorities, decisions, perspective, and delivers a philosophy for living that delivers the fruit of the Spirit led life. It is assurance that allows us to learn to feast on uncertainty and to remain faithful and joyful and trusting in the face of chaos and calamity, and to embrace the adventure of that to come which we cannot predict nor control! Assurance is a most important concept for the UB student to understand and learn to embrace.

The mind poisons of doubt, anxiety, fear, anger, mistrust, and paranoia erode such assurance and prevent the fruits of the Spirit which come by the assurance of our safe keeping and safe passage in God's friendly universe!! That and those who are antagonistic to assurance - especially that assurance/faith/trust within others - are the enemies of truth, beauty, and goodness and embrace evil and spread evil to others....they offer the bitter fruit of the dead branch and the blind and deaf perspective of those who personally lack assurance...or, perhaps, they suffer from spiritual pride and feel superior in their assurance to others and believe it is their place to criticize, instruct, and otherwise demean the religious experience and growth and assurance of others. In either case, we should be wary of those who distrust God or God's power, purpose, plan, and process or who feel it their duty to tell others what to do and when and to measure others by their own self perceived superiority....puffed up tadpoles!

God loves us each and blesses us each with personality, mind, free will, and endows each with the ministry of the Spirits - and all of these combine to give us the assurance of God and God's love and our relationship to God and to one another.

Assurance is related to so many concepts and teaching in the Urantia Book.

Upon further study of assurance - both faith-assurance (delivered by evolutionary religious experience by the Holy Spirit and Adjutants) and truth-assurance (delivered by revelatory religious experience by the God Fragment)- it is increasingly apparent that we are being provided a pattern for personal ministry and loving service and interaction with all other religionists. We too are to become and learn to be agents of assurance! Universe reality is itself assuring and confirming of truth, beauty, and goodness.

In our interactions with others do we confirm universe reality and our own faithful assurance of this friendly universe and God's profound and paternal love and mercy and patience and the evolutionary progress of our world and the safety of all creation and creatures in the universe? Do we share faithful assurance that is proven and demonstrated only by the sharing of the Divine Fruits of the Spirit - the only true evidence of our own religious experience and faith?

To accuse others of error or ignorance and to share our disappointments in any, some, or all others and to demand others measure up to our own levels of expectation and 'superior' understanding while we blame others for our own suffering or the suffering of others and to point out the errors of others in knowledge and belief - none of these are the caring sharing of our own fruits or own assurance.

How assured do we feel? What certainties do we have and feel related to God's love? Or are our certainties related to beliefs and knowledge which we think we should impose upon others who are lesser in understanding than us? Even those of us with this Epochal Revelation of Universe Reality are often too quick to share knowledge with and demand conformity by others rather than seek out ways to give and share a caring assurance of God's love and presence and our/their safety in this friendly and loving universe. We fail to find the truth and the light within others first to add to the assurance of faith and personal revelation each of us is connected to.

Too often do we presume that others need some form of conversion and salvation - when what is so often needed most is simply affirmation, reassurance, empathy, support, comfort, and the sharing of Spirit fruit. I think it is this need and perspective that Jesus presented in the parable of the beam in the eye and the Good Samaritan and the talents and the mill stone and his example of finding that truth which is held in common and adding to the spiritual experience of others rather than to attempt to change or remove something and the imperative to never diminish the faith of another in our efforts to minister, preach, or evangelize to others.

This topic offers a wide variety of concepts and text which presents the many facets of assurance and the power that inner assurance provides to the pilgrims of time. We mortal tadpoles striving on the material worlds of our birth to unify and harmonize our dual natures and perspective of reality are given assurance from our very earliest days as mere children by our faith relationship and experience with the adjutants and Holy Spirit.

The impulses and urges innate in our very nature and this basic relationship with God nourishes the dependence upon God we have for happiness and fulfillment - spirit nature nourishment. No different from suckling milk at Mother's breast for the nurture of the biologic systems is the nourishing of the spirit. Assurance is part of the nutritional content, like vitamins or protein and other elements of nutrition, assurance delivers a very specific and critical functionality and response.

The bread of life and the living waters presented by Jesus are a metaphor perhaps but not really. I consider them more of a comparison to and parallel to that which nourishes the mortal being. We are dual natured and both natures have systems which require nourishment and which respond to nourishment by growth and progressive transformation. These dual natures provide many such parallels of similarity in patterns which reflect and reveal universe realities. As we grow, the nature and source of nourishment also progresses to feed that which is more mature and more demanding and more able to digest and to actualize into nourishment in more complex ways.

Likewise do poisons affect both our material and our spiritual natures and beings. We are given fair warning about mind poisons which cause blindness, stagnation, disability, pain, lack of growth, unhappiness, and can cause death if ingested sufficiently. These mind poisons are not unknown even before and outside of the Revelation. Most all are close cousins to fear and anxiety. Assurance is the antidote to these poisons and which, over time and with sufficient faith and spiritization, should result in being immune to both fear and anxiety. (Fear being specific to cause, incident, circumstance, and situation. Anxiety being more generalized as a condition or state of mind without need for any specific cause, incident, circumstance, or situration.)

This is the importance of assurance to the mortal tadpoles of time. For fear and anxiety are natural, evolutionary traits which are very beneficial and critical to the mortals of the earlier epochs for their very survival and even later deliver important survival benefits which only quick reactions and instincts can deliver. But the more civilized humanity becomes, the more fears and anxieties become unreasoned and dibilitating to personal and social progress. We become slaves to fear and anxiety. And the worry which comes thereby is a poison. And there is only one true antidote - assurance within. Peace of mind. Contentment. Confidence in ultimate outcomes. There is only one source of this one true antidote...God within.

Now I would quibble a bit with the Revelation. It says there is only one proof of spiritization and spiritual growth and that is the fruits of the Spirit. I would not quibble with this if that also likewise means that there is a lack of fear and anxiety. They should come as a package I think. Happiness and confidence, hand in hand. So if we seek evidence of the Spirit within in another....how much happiness and peace and contentment is there and how little anxiety and fear? We may not pretend either or any of these attributes and traits of spiritization.

Let us consider what the Master offers us on the matter:

181:1.8 (1954.5) A certain amount of both stoicism and optimism are serviceable in living a life on earth, but neither has aught to do with that superb peace which the Son of God bestows upon his brethren in the flesh. The peace which Michael gives his children on earth is that very peace which filled his own soul when he himself lived the mortal life in the flesh and on this very world. The peace of Jesus is the joy and satisfaction of a God-knowing individual who has achieved the triumph of learning fully how to do the will of God while living the mortal life in the flesh. The peace of Jesus’ mind was founded on an absolute human faith in the actuality of the divine Father’s wise and sympathetic overcare. Jesus had trouble on earth, he has even been falsely called the “man of sorrows,” but in and through all of these experiences he enjoyed the comfort of that confidence which ever empowered him to proceed with his life purpose in the full assurance that he was achieving the Father’s will.

181:1.9 (1954.6) Jesus was determined, persistent, and thoroughly devoted to the accomplishment of his mission, but he was not an unfeeling and calloused stoic; he ever sought for the cheerful aspects of his life experiences, but he was not a blind and self-deceived optimist. The Master knew all that was to befall him, and he was unafraid. After he had bestowed this peace upon each of his followers, he could consistently say, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

181:1.10 (1955.1) The peace of Jesus is, then, the peace and assurance of a son who fully believes that his career for time and eternity is safely and wholly in the care and keeping of an all-wise, all-loving, and all-powerful spirit Father. And this is, indeed, a peace which passes the understanding of mortal mind, but which can be enjoyed to the full by the believing human heart.

100:2.7 (1096.4) Jesus portrayed the profound surety of the God-knowing mortal when he said: “To a God-knowing kingdom believer, what does it matter if all things earthly crash?” Temporal securities are vulnerable, but spiritual sureties are impregnable. When the flood tides of human adversity, selfishness, cruelty, hate, malice, and jealousy beat about the mortal soul, you may rest in the assurance that there is one inner bastion, the citadel of the spirit, which is absolutely unassailable; at least this is true of every human being who has dedicated the keeping of his soul to the indwelling spirit of the eternal God.

100:2.8 (1096.5) After such spiritual attainment, whether secured by gradual growth or specific crisis, there occurs a new orientation of personality as well as the development of a new standard of values. Such spirit-born individuals are so remotivated in life that they can calmly stand by while their fondest ambitions perish and their keenest hopes crash; they positively know that such catastrophes are but the redirecting cataclysms which wreck one’s temporal creations preliminary to the rearing of the more noble and enduring realities of a new and more sublime level of universe attainment.

180:5.8 (1950.3) But the highest realization and the truest interpretation of the golden rule consists in the consciousness of the spirit of the truth of the enduring and living reality of such a divine declaration. The true cosmic meaning of this rule of universal relationship is revealed only in its spiritual realization, in the interpretation of the law of conduct by the spirit of the Son to the spirit of the Father that indwells the soul of mortal man. And when such spirit-led mortals realize the true meaning of this golden rule, they are filled to overflowing with the assurance of citizenship in a friendly universe, and their ideals of spirit reality are satisfied only when they love their fellows as Jesus loved us all, and that is the reality of the realization of the love of God.

Jim's claims and proclamations posted here preach a belief in superstitous falsehoods which refute and contradict the Papers in profound ways. By proclaiming that Jesus died "because of our sins", he preaches blood sacrifice and atonement for racial and collective ("our") sin(s)...fear based fictions perpetuated only by priests and preachers to impose false guilt and and manipulate anxieties which defy the reality of the connection of mortals to Deity and the paternal affection we inherently enjoy!!!

Jesus did not die for or because of our sins!! Jim preaches here we are all guilty of much and must all repent and be redeemed and sacrifice our will upon the altars of placation to overcome the collective debt and personal punishments of racial sin. Wow.

Jesus taught exactly the opposite!! The Divine Affection and Assurance is innate and inherent and maintained by simple faith and hope and trust. It is not lost or broken and billions of mortals on our world express that faith connection with Deity every day in endless ways demonstrating truth, beauty, and goodness to one another as they pass by.

4. Origins of Sacrifice

89:4.1 (977.3) Sacrifice as a part of religious devotions, like many other worshipful rituals, did not have a simple and single origin. The tendency to bow down before power and to prostrate oneself in worshipful adoration in the presence of mystery is foreshadowed in the fawning of the dog before its master. It is but one step from the impulse of worship to the act of sacrifice. Primitive man gauged the value of his sacrifice by the pain which he suffered. When the idea of sacrifice first attached itself to religious ceremonial, no offering was contemplated which was not productive of pain. The first sacrifices were such acts as plucking hair, cutting the flesh, mutilations, knocking out teeth, and cutting off fingers. As civilization advanced, these crude concepts of sacrifice were elevated to the level of the rituals of self-abnegation, asceticism, fasting, deprivation, and the later Christian doctrine of sanctification through sorrow, suffering, and the mortification of the flesh.

89:4.2 (977.4) Early in the evolution of religion there existed two conceptions of the sacrifice: the idea of the gift sacrifice, which connoted the attitude of thanksgiving, and the debt sacrifice, which embraced the idea of redemption. Later there developed the notion of substitution.

89:4.3 (977.5) Man still later conceived that his sacrifice of whatever nature might function as a message bearer to the gods; it might be as a sweet savor in the nostrils of deity. This brought incense and other aesthetic features of sacrificial rituals which developed into sacrificial feasting, in time becoming increasingly elaborate and ornate.

89:4.4 (978.1) As religion evolved, the sacrificial rites of conciliation and propitiation replaced the older methods of avoidance, placation, and exorcism.

89:4.5 (978.2) The earliest idea of the sacrifice was that of a neutrality assessment levied by ancestral spirits; only later did the idea of atonement develop. As man got away from the notion of the evolutionary origin of the race, as the traditions of the days of the Planetary Prince and the sojourn of Adam filtered down through time, the concept of sin and of original sin became widespread, so that sacrifice for accidental and personal sin evolved into the doctrine of sacrifice for the atonement of racial sin. The atonement of the sacrifice was a blanket insurance device which covered even the resentment and jealousy of an unknown god.

89:4.7 (978.4) Gifts and bribes are given to men; but when tendered to the gods, they are described as being dedicated, made sacred, or are called sacrifices. Renunciation was the negative form of propitiation; sacrifice became the positive form. The act of propitiation included praise, glorification, flattery, and even entertainment. And it is the remnants of these positive practices of the olden propitiation cult that constitute the modern forms of divine worship. Present-day forms of worship are simply the ritualization of these ancient sacrificial techniques of positive propitiation.

Regarding Jim's statement that the UB puts us "in our place" and makes us "face it", I certainly agree!!! The UB celebrates and elevates the mortal tadpoles of time, as did and does the Jesusonian Gospel.

We are the very pinnacle of the evolutionary creations of the local universes. We mortals enjoy the fullest spectrum of experiential wisdom and progress from origin to Paradise and our destiny is to become a most highly regarded and important contributor and participant in the eternal creation adventures to come!!!

The fact that we begin as mere spirit-infants and tadpoles in time is a most wondrous reality demonstrating the miraculous connection to Deity we are born with and the many others which arrive by our unconcious response to that Divine Affection and origin. There is no shame in our origins. Shame on those who think so...or say such nonsense.

Mortals are the eternal and experiential seeds of hope and potential sown on 7 trillion worlds...including this little place known as The Shrine of Nebadon!!!!

By the teachings of the UB and the Jesusonian Gospel we mortal tadpoles of time are exalted and admired and held in high regard as esteemed, even venerable universe citizens because of our origins and potentials and very unique connection to and partnership with God. Our "place" is vital and gloriously welcome to all who truly understand the teachings of the UB.

40:6.2 (448.1) It is a solemn and supernal fact that such lowly and material creatures as Urantia human beings are the sons of God, faith children of the Highest. “Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us that we should be called the sons of God.” “As many as received him, to them gave he the power to recognize that they are the sons of God.” While “it does not yet appear what you shall be,” even now “you are the faith sons of God”; “for you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you have received the spirit of sonship, whereby you cry, ‘our Father.’” Spoke the prophet of old in the name of the eternal God: “Even to them will I give in my house a place and a name better than sons; I will give them an everlasting name, one that shall not be cut off.” “And because you are sons, God has sent forth the spirit of his Son into your hearts.”

40:6.3 (448.2) All evolutionary worlds of mortal habitation harbor these faith sons of God, sons of grace and mercy, mortal beings belonging to the divine family and accordingly called the sons of God. Urantia mortals are entitled to regard themselves as being the sons of God because:

40:6.4 (448.3) 1. You are sons of spiritual promise, faith sons; you have accepted the status of sonship. You believe in the reality of your sonship, and thus does your sonship with God become eternally real.

40:6.5 (448.4) 2. A Creator Son of God became one of you; he is your elder brother in fact; and if in spirit you become truly related brothers of Christ, the victorious Michael, then in spirit must you also be sons of that Father which you have in common—even the Universal Father of all.

40:6.6 (448.5) 3. You are sons because the spirit of a Son has been poured out upon you, has been freely and certainly bestowed upon all Urantia races. This spirit ever draws you toward the divine Son, who is its source, and toward the Paradise Father, who is the source of that divine Son.

40:6.7 (448.6) 4. Of his divine free-willness, the Universal Father has given you your creature personalities. You have been endowed with a measure of that divine spontaneity of freewill action which God shares with all who may become his sons.

40:6.8 (448.7) 5. There dwells within you a fragment of the Universal Father, and you are thus directly related to the divine Father of all the Sons of God.

8)

31:10.20 (354.6) Evolutionary mortals are born on the planets of space, pass through the morontia worlds, ascend the spirit universes, traverse the Havona spheres, find God, attain Paradise, and are mustered into the primary Corps of the Finality, therein to await the next assignment of universe service. There are six other assembling finality corps, but Grandfanda, the first mortal ascender, presides as Paradise chief of all orders of finaliters. And as we view this sublime spectacle, we all exclaim: What a glorious destiny for the animal-origin children of time, the material sons of space!

32:3.11 (361.6) In all this is shown the wisdom of the Creators. It would be just as easy for the Universal Father to make all mortals perfect beings, to impart perfection by his divine word. But that would deprive them of the wonderful experience of the adventure and training associated with the long and gradual inward climb, an experience to be had only by those who are so fortunate as to begin at the very bottom of living existence.

Link to topic: "The Gospel of Jesus...or... The Jesusonian Gospel"

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5813

Since the Spirit of Truth was gifted to our world upon the death and resurrection of The Master, every human with mind and soul has been ministered to by the voice and message and gospel of Jesus. Even if we never heard his name.

The UB teaches that the spirits of Deity minister to us through and by the God Fragments and we cannot distinguish one from another. We express our response to the Divine Connection and Deity Gravity Circuits by our morality, generosity, loyalties, duty, service, love, and our embrace of truth, beauty, and goodness, and by the fruits of the Spirit. These are faith reflections and the results of personal spiritization... which is our response to Spirit.

8)

194:2.1 (2060.6) Jesus lived on earth and taught a gospel which redeemed man from the superstition that he was a child of the devil and elevated him to the dignity of a faith son of God. Jesus’ message, as he preached it and lived it in his day, was an effective solvent for man’s spiritual difficulties in that day of its statement. And now that he has personally left the world, he sends in his place his Spirit of Truth, who is designed to live in man and, for each new generation, to restate the Jesus message so that every new group of mortals to appear upon the face of the earth shall have a new and up-to-date version of the gospel, just such personal enlightenment and group guidance as will prove to be an effective solvent for man’s ever-new and varied spiritual difficulties.

194:2.2 (2060.7) The first mission of this spirit is, of course, to foster and personalize truth, for it is the comprehension of truth that constitutes the highest form of human liberty. Next, it is the purpose of this spirit to destroy the believer’s feeling of orphanhood. Jesus having been among men, all believers would experience a sense of loneliness had not the Spirit of Truth come to dwell in men’s hearts.

194:2.3 (2061.1) This bestowal of the Son’s spirit effectively prepared all normal men’s minds for the subsequent universal bestowal of the Father’s spirit (the Adjuster) upon all mankind. In a certain sense, this Spirit of Truth is the spirit of both the Universal Father and the Creator Son.

194:2.4 (2061.2) Do not make the mistake of expecting to become strongly intellectually conscious of the outpoured Spirit of Truth. The spirit never creates a consciousness of himself, only a consciousness of Michael, the Son. From the beginning Jesus taught that the spirit would not speak of himself. The proof, therefore, of your fellowship with the Spirit of Truth is not to be found in your consciousness of this spirit but rather in your experience of enhanced fellowship with Michael.

194:2.5 (2061.3) The spirit also came to help men recall and understand the words of the Master as well as to illuminate and reinterpret his life on earth.

194:2.6 (2061.4) Next, the Spirit of Truth came to help the believer to witness to the realities of Jesus’ teachings and his life as he lived it in the flesh, and as he now again lives it anew and afresh in the individual believer of each passing generation of the spirit-filled sons of God.
