For all who have responded back to my previous and first post, I am so very grateful! I am very thankful for your knowledge and desire to help. I have another question/thought come about that I think you all may be able to answer well, and even be curious about yourself:

What is the test of revelation? How do we know which revelation to follow? Who do we trust? What do we trust? How will/do we know?

As a focused example, The Urantia Book and The Second Coming of Christ: The Resurrection Within You - by Yogi Paramahansa Yoganda.

The Urantia Book claims a truth about Jesus and his teachings and of an interpretation of the scripture and writings found in the Bible. However, Yogi Paramahansa Yoganda also claims to give a correct understanding about Jesus and interpreting scripture; however, he claims this was a revelation from Jesus Christ Himself.

There are great similarities between the two, but there are also great differences. Both cannot be Truth. How do we examine and test revelation? In whom/in what do we put our trust and faith in?

In Peace and In Love; In Christ,
The Servant

One way that I test revelation is if it aggrandizes an individual as opposed to being of benefit to all without a single individual taking credit. Another way is whether it requires any special status, special expertise, or techniques to achieve the benefits or fullness of the revelation, or if anyone, using just their inherent abilities and spiritual insight, can understand it fully.

Finally, if the revelation exemplifies truth, goodness and beauty there is a good chance that is Real.

To this question I think Jesus would say: "By their fruits you shall know them."

If you DO the stuff suggested in the alleged revelations (including different ways of thinking/acting) do you get 'positive' changes/results?

Here's couple of quotes:

5:2.4: ...The proof of fraternity with the divine Adjuster consists wholly in the nature and extent of the fruits of the spirit which are yielded in the life experience of the individual believer. "By their fruits you shall know them."

34:6.13 The consciousness of the spirit domination of a human life is presently attended by an increasing exhibition of the characteristics of the Spirit in the life reactions of such a spirit-led mortal, “for the fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance.”

I'm not sure I agree with your assertion that "they both can't be true"
No matter how much folks here say they are just taking the Ubook "literally"---I believe that us fallible humans are bound to have at least some differences in how we interpret the words in the book.
I've been reading book for 30+ years and it has changed for me as I have gained experience.
Other things that I have read have expanded and deepened my understanding on The Urantia Book.

Yes, there have been many alleged 'revelations' and alternate "gospels' before and after the Ubook.

I've seen that Yogananda one, and there's another (locked) thread here in which someone talks about Valtorta's "Poem of the Man-God," and some of the folks on Urantia boards will talk about that book called A Course In Miracles (and the more recent books by Gary Renard which explain it) as allegedly coming from "Jesus."
There's an older book called The Aquarian Gospel Of Jesus (1908?) which I have not read.
The question for the 'discerning' reader of such works is: are the differences 'meaningful?'

Wisely, the folks at this board discourage discussion about the vast mountain of alleged 'higher truths' that have appeared since the Ubook and I am especially skeptical of those who try to claim they are getting 'updates' to the Urantia papers.

Take a moment to be still. Recognize that you are attending the information in the UBook from a conditioned perspective, based on previous learning.

My experience of A Course in Miracles was fraught with difficulties because of my inability to "let go" of previous learning. The same was true with the Urantia book.

As beings conditioned with the error of ego, we tend to take an absolutist position when it comes to Truth. We feel that two things cannot be true, and while this may be the case with Ultimate Truth (Ground of all Being), it is not the case with relative truth. The first section of the UB covers this topic more fully.

Furthermore, the UB, from what I have been able to comprehend thus far, has a more linear paradigm it teaches, where the truth's presented by Yogananda, Advaita, and others teach non-dual. It may be difficult to recognize how both can co-exist in the mind, though this difficulty will vanish when the real purpose of our existence is made aware.

We are here to discover our True nature as a Child of God. Our experience as a planetary will-creature is neither our Truth, nor is it a permanent state of being. And as we walk this earth as creatures, we harbor a Divine Light (TA, Holy Spirit) which has never not been fully with our Father.

Enlightenment, then, becomes the full recognition of this fact, and leads to a transformation of being. This transformation then directs us inward (Spirit-led), and our sojourn (return) begins, in which time the entirety of Creation has been designed to assist.

Blessings
