I posted this a few weeks ago at the Urantia Association International website. But wanted to share it here as well for my beloved fellow students at TruthBook. Before posting the text, a couple of things. First is a link to a presentation by David Kantor, a long time student and activist servant who just posted a video that is a must-view for those affiliated with the Fellowship, Foundation, Association or otherwise work to disseminate the UB.

https://vimeo.com/143497030

Second, apologies to my Fellowship friends; the following was written specifically for the audience at the Association's website. I worked in service to the Fellowship and my Society for many years and know of the great dedication and worthy results over the decades by the Fellowship as organization and by its many supporters. Kudos to all of you in your endeavors. The Association and Fellowship and Foundation have multiple "joint ventures" that all support, including the unified study group directory, attendance at and participation in the Parliament of World Religions (this year was the third or fourth time all worked together), educational committee joint works, next year there is a combined conference in Texas, and more such work together.

The video above is about an hour long and filled with very interesting facts, reflections, and ideas about the "state" of the movement and the growing opportunities to work in service and in dissemination. Mr. Kantor is, I believe, an active member in the Fellowship but offers illumination to the trials, frustrations, and challenges that all disseminators face. There are some awesome graphics and production quality videos utilized in his presentation. One of the most revealing and hopeful elements presented is how many individuals and small groups of disseminators are changing the landscape, for the better, in reaching a growing population of reader/students. Hope you enjoy it too.

My prior post:

Greetings fellow truth seekers and students of the URANTIA Book!!

I am starting this topic to explore the history, current status, and potential future of the dissemination of the UB and its teachings and I invite all who will to join in. There is no particular focus for the thread but some ideas for sharing might include:

How I found the UB (or did it find me?)

Forms of dissemination you have attempted and found either success or failure in those different forms of effort.

Current dissemination efforts you are supporting.

Forms of dissemination you would like to support or know about.

The history of UB dissemination efforts.

Dissemination began back in the 1950’s by the Foundation and the Brotherhood (formed originally by members of the Forum). The Foundation has, for the last 60 years, been the publisher of the UB and its distributor. Distribution was originally an exclusive work for the Brotherhood which developed many grass roots systems and networks for hand to hand, study group, library, used and new book stores, book fairs, Jesus Birthday celebrations, local conferences, and other forms for getting the printed book into circulation. That success allowed the Foundation to focus on two priorities: commercial book distribution systems and translations. The Foundation has also been very supportive in supplying free or discounted books to many disseminators over the decades.

Today, the Foundation and the Urantia Association work together to get cases of books into the hands of study group hosts and Association members (and others) overseas where there is no commercial distribution system – demand must come before the supply side will respond. So while the West can buy UB’s from multiple commercial book distributors, books are being shipped into India, Africa, S. America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, the Philippines, and other countries where there are students and study groups needing books (often such places require free or deeply discounted books due to national/local poverty). Some disseminators do truly take great personal risk in this act of dissemination in service to the growing student body.

While there are over 1000 study groups that meet in person, the fastest growing form of study groups are Skype and on-line, usually organized by language rather than geographical proximity. The Foundation and Association do not need to create readers or promote readership….as the growth in readership is now an exponential explosion of demand making it more important to “respond” to rather than “create” demand. Many from sponsoring organizations are also on the ground in every continent and many countries, organizing group events and supporting study group hosts and establishing book distribution networks, either private or commercial.

The number of schools with published curriculum and experienced instructors is increasing and so is their student body. My wife and I have taken 3 classes with UBIS where each class of 20 often had students from 3-4 continents and 6-8 different countries!!! From my first touch of a UB to today, the planet is being blessed by the efforts of so many to disseminate the book and its teachings.

As to dissemination of the “teachings” of the Revelation, there is much variety. The Association’s efforts are to promote the living of the truth by those who disseminate and the sharing of knowledge, truth, experience, and wisdom by students with each other – there are no creeds, dogmas, beliefs, or other forms of leadership or group expression of the teachings….the book contains the teachings and students both learn from and teach one another in their learning and sharing and caring. The readership determines the form and content of disseminating the teachings and not the service organization or any form of hierchy (no praise priests allowed!!)

A big thank you to I don’t know who….but to you and them who got a used UB into a small used book store in a little dusty western town in 1976 just in time for me to find it after looking for my own book for over 2 years after another hippie loaned me his for a summer read in 1974. And to those gentle folk in Northern California who were the first readers I ever met and not until 1984 who placed a book, a Concordex, and a Paramony in the public library which I found roaming the religion/philosophy aisles as I always do – I was struck by lightening and wept in joy that day. Thankfully those days are long gone and the book is everywhere….but it did not happen easily, quickly, or without the work of thousands of students. But there are still places where the book requires the passing of the book from one reader’s hand to another’s hand carried by boat or burro to reach those who wish their own copy in their own language.

What a privilege to serve with a valiant corps of disseminators inspired to share that which has meant so much to each of us who so endeavor together in this service to our world and to those who made this gift to us. Peace

fanofVan aka Brad

Hi Brother 8)

''A mixed media presentation produced for the Urantia Book Los Angeles Society, presented at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Anaheim, California.''

Interesting but scince it was Presented to a so called
''Unitarian Universalist Church''

It personaly was a turn off to me ,as well as it seems to come across
as dogmatic an preachy,

Any good news about the UB , IS GOOD ,
Yet NO Church is needed .

Nor ANY Preachers need to Be Evangelists etc ,

I Do know and understand that the various Urantia Book Orgs
Have and do much with the various translations an often freely at no cost
give away books to those interested ,

And thats GREAT , I Love it .

And IMO The UB Should be promoted an be made aware of in any way and
means possible , its ALL GOOD!

Albeit my Question is , DO These ANY Of these various Urantia Orgs ,
Actualy help Anyone By feeding the hungry , the Sick the Homeless,
The poor , souls in need of Help etc ? AS Jesus our Master would an asks ?

Im Sincere about this question , and curious , I Have no doubt that many
''members'' Do So ,

But DO The Urantia Orgs Do So ?

My Brother , please dont take my question in the wrong way or
as negative , IMO The UB Needs to be known world wide , and it will be,

Although the simple Teachings of Jesus Need to be known , understood
and accepted First . IMO

Love yah Brother

Faith son Coop

Coop -- I believe that after some 60 years the Urantia orgs are pretty much cuddled up in a comfortable cocoon. They promote books. To some extent they promote the teachings. They tend to be self-help groups for students and believers. Basically, they're good at contemplating our navels. The time has not yet come when they open the cocoons to the outside world.

Consider the influence Christianity and the Bible have had on civilization -- all of that's not the result of promoting books, or denominations or churches; it comes from spirit-led individuals writing music, art, literature, architecture, laws based on Christian principles and values. The Urantia Book provides principles and values along those lines too, of a higher order, which will eventually have profound influence on civilization. That will come from spirit-led individuals and not from organizations.

coop - my brother friend - an important question.

I would dispute Larry's characterization of being "cuddled up" at any organizational structure or level. Actually, it is far more like a kettle of popcorn in the world of dissemination. 40 years ago there was an occasional "pop", 30 years ago it became a "pop-pop", and when the internet came along, it became a "pop-pop-pop" (in between 30 years ago and 15 years ago, was much disarray and human folly - but the results of all that is a more diverse, wizened, and experienced readership today). Today, the organizations are almost completely out of the "find" or create new readers and we are being overwhelmed by the demand - now huge and growing exponentially - that all those prior popped kernels (seeds of dissemination) have resulted in - and now the kettle of corn is popping over the container, popping out in all directions to overflowing!! The growth in the readership is amazing to those of us with historical perspective - I was certain for over 5 years that I was the only reader on-planet! Now there is a might wind a blowing - the mustard tree blooms and grows in strength as well as numbers! This - by personal and organizational dissemination for 6 decades.

Anecdotally, I can assure you that many individual readers, study groups, local Societies and Associations, unaffiliated individuals working together in mission-teams, have always had outreach efforts that went beyond dissemination of the UB itself. But, I do concur that such ministry has not been (and in my opinion should not be) any organizational priority for serving the humanitarian needs of our fellows. However, by disseminating the UB and its teachings, those believers who are so activated should be (and are) invigorated to share the fruits of the spirit and shine the light of love, truth, beauty, and goodness in countless personal ways, certainly including serving the poor, the sick, the disenfranchised, the dislocated, the suffering ones - as this, we are taught, is the natural result of religious living for all who believe in the universal family of all creation and the resulting brotherhood/fellowship of all humanity.

I think your question misses the point of dissemination however. You've heard the old saying about feeding someone a fish vs. teaching them how to fish, eh? Is not the sharing of the living waters and bread of life a most worthy endeavor for groups of believers acting in teams and organizations to shine the light of Epochal Revelation? What comes from such sowing of the mustard seed? The more readers of this book of truth there are who become activated in the spirit, the more humanity shall be served by the each and by the all. The point and purpose of dissemination is simply sharing by caring - a most noble and worthy effort of the sincere believer in the family of God.

Such an organizational objective also encourages good citizenship and active participation in social ministry by all who share this belief in the universal family of ALL. The work you recognize as important, even imperative, is the work of each believer. The organizations are applying all monetary and volunteer resources available to serve the growing readership by creating the infrastructure for the interaction and relationship development of the student body - an exploding student body. We have our hands full creating multi-lingual world wide connectivity for the organic, evolutionary, and progressive expression opportunities for that student body. Loving service to all brothers and sisters is an elemental requirement for true believers (God believers, not book believers), therefor, the more believers there are, the more such loving service is unleashed upon our world.

Personally, I've always found the apocraphylic Publication Mandate to be quite unneeded by those who come to believe the claims of the book as presented. WHAT ELSE WOULD I DO?? Of course I feel compelled to SHARE this beacon of light and hope and truth to everyone else! I can do so in two ways - live the truth so discovered and disseminate the Revelation gifted to our world by the Master Son of Nebadon! Neither option includes "contemplating our navels" for pete's sake!!!!! Is this talent gifted to us to be hidden and buried or held closely for one's self? Who will help the celestials who authored and provided this gift to disseminate it to the world in every language and to every hand, rich or poor, who wants it for themselves? Is there a more noble objective for the organizations of this TruthBook than to share it with all others?

I admire and respect Larry and all who serve dissemination here at TruthBook so this next opinion is in no way directed at anyone who so serves, especially so long and so well. But it is true that many times, those who accuse others of something, anything at all actually, are really self-indicting. Liars think everyone is a liar and cheats do to and betrayers, etc. They reflect their own errors and sins upon all others because that is their personal reference point and mechanism. When I hear the lament (and its everywhere in the UB movement) that "nothing is being done, nothing is happening, why isn't someone doing something" - what I hear is that the lamenter is not doing anything, is not engaged in service, is a navel contemplator extrordinaire!!!

On this site, and others, I and other students are often accused of living with our head in a book and that's up our you know what and all we do is read, read, read, yak, yak, yak. For those of us engaged in dissemination and the daily walk of service, it is quite comical....and a little annoying. You coop, my brother friend, are a faithful soul who brings clarity, wisdom, and great humor to bear upon the student body here and other places. I have no doubt how brightly your light shines in your daily and life walk upon the pilgrim's path and glory road.

I think we might all be amazed by what others are doing which serves not only our fellows but the Most Highs in their work to uplift us all into Light and Life to come. Every organization which works in dissemination is filled with sincere ones who give time and money without any personal/material reward but only seek to serve in their own way - collectively and individually. I have been so blessed for so long to work shoulder to shoulder with so many fine people of sincere heart and worthy effort to serve by disseminating this glorious textbook and gift of Revelation. Such ones inevitably find their reward for their selfless service as they share the fruits of the Spirit within....as we are promised.

 :!:   8)

When I first started reading my UB, I immediately contacted the Foundation to inquire about it. You know, the usual - who wrote it and so forth. This was more than 30 years ago. I poked around as much as I could, given the technology available back then (telephone). I found out a lot and met up with a few in a local study group for awhile.

One of the first criticisms I kept hearing was that the UB was a "rich man's bible" due to its cost. When I found out about the various conferences and meetings of readers getting together somewhere in the world far from where I lived, to further the dissemination and translation efforts and such, I said to myself, sure would be nice if I could afford to participate and jump on an airplane and hang out in some nice hotel with these nice folks. But those cards where not then, and aren't now, in my hand.

I believe it is all part of the miracle of the appearance of the book, the timing, that now with the internet it is rather self-disseminating. I was mightily impressed by the anonymous authorship of the book, that the identity of the contact personality, the sleeping subject was kept secret. There is a paradox involved with anyone who works to share the book, produces Urantia Book media and so forth and does it without anonymity. Receiving credit for what I'm gonna call UB extracurricular activities, has the same effect as if the sleeping subject's identity would have been known. Why else did Jesus continually tell those who received his assistance to "tell no man".

The point is there is power in anonymity. It's a paradox.

I think the text stands completely on its own. I think disseminating the UB is not necessary. I think God works with anyone who genuinely seeks truth to bring him or her to the text. That's what happened to me. The fact of it being forever lodged in or on the internet is enough now. In a FER kind of way, it's gone viral!

Just don't tell anyone.

Yes, I most agree with nodAmanav. I also think it is not necessary to disseminate the UB though I share it whenever I have a chance. I discovered it without anybody telling me about it. And it is more satisfying to discover something valuable than somebody giving it to you, no feeling of indebtedness to anyone.

Did Jesus ask us to do that? I thought that poor souls in need of help would best be helped by hearing the good news, the gospel. Yes, it's good to feed the hungry stomach, but the hungry soul is what really needs nourishment. That type of nourishment only comes from the Spirit.

I think giving people food, shelter, clothing, health care and employment is a secular concern. Secular concerns are best satisfied by humanitarians. And the best humanitarians are those who, having been born of the spirit within, manifest their fruits in service to others. The best service begins in the soul and pours outward.

Dissemination of the Revelation is a way to feed to the soul. It is a way of spreading the good news, the gospel. Not that the Papers are the actual gospel, but they provide the ideas which become food for the soul. They give the Spirit of Truth something to work with, like the feeding of the five thousand, and when that is accomplished good things begin to happen to everyone. When Jesus said to feed his flock, I'm pretty sure he meant "soul food", not BBQ.

You who would be the undershepherds of my Father's flocks must not only be worthy leaders, but you must also feed the flock with good food; you are not true shepherds unless you lead your flocks into green pastures and beside still waters. 165:2:6

In Friendship,
Rexford

Yes there are various interpretations as to what the UB may indicate should be necessary to administer "love" to our brethren, but to assume a religious or spiritual only focus as to helping one another is a different aspect to what "love" and how "love' should be distributed.
Quote:
(2094.6) 196:3.7 1. Humanitarian fellowshiplove. The purely animal mind may be gregarious for self-protection, but only the spirit-indwelt intellect is unselfishly altruistic and unconditionally loving.

When those who are focused on providing for the every day needs of living and are in need of medical assistance and cannot receive it, they will be less able to understand or receive the Good News of the Gospel, therefore to provide one without supplementing the other is counterproductive.

Then there is the following:
Quote:
(1931.1) 178:1.10 Under the soon-coming persecutions by those who hate this gospel of joy and liberty, you will thrive and the kingdom will prosper. But you will stand in grave danger in subsequent times when most men will speak well of kingdom believers and many in high places nominally accept the gospel of the heavenly kingdom. Learn to be faithful to the kingdom even in times of peace and prosperity. Tempt not the angels of your supervision to lead you in troublous ways as a loving discipline designed to save your ease-drifting souls.

(1931.2) 178:1.11 Remember that you are commissioned to preach this gospel of the kingdom — the supreme desire to do the Father’s will coupled with the supreme joy of the faith realization of sonship with God — and you must not allow anything to divert your devotion to this one duty. Let all mankind benefit from the overflow of your loving spiritual ministry, enlightening intellectual communion, and uplifting social service; but none of these humanitarian labors, nor all of them, should be permitted to take the place of proclaiming the gospel. These mighty ministrations are the social by-products of the still more mighty and sublime ministrations and transformations wrought in the heart of the kingdom believer by the living Spirit of Truth and by the personal realization that the faith of a spirit-born man confers the assurance of living fellowship with the eternal God.

(1931.3) 178:1.12 You must not seek to promulgate truth nor to establish righteousness by the power of civil governments or by the enaction of secular laws. You may always labor to persuade men’s minds, but you must never dare to compel them. You must not forget the great law of human fairness which I have taught you in positive form: Whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do even so to them.

(1931.4) 178:1.13 When a kingdom believer is called upon to serve the civil government, let him render such service as a temporal citizen of such a government, albeit such a believer should display in his civil service all of the ordinary traits of citizenship as these have been enhanced by the spiritual enlightenment of the ennobling association of the mind of mortal man with the indwelling spirit of the eternal God. If the unbeliever can qualify as a superior civil servant, you should seriously question whether the roots of truth in your heart have not died from the lack of the living waters of combined spiritual communion and social service. The consciousness of sonship with God should quicken the entire life service of every man, woman, and child who has become the possessor of such a mighty stimulus to all the inherent powers of a human personality.

However to supplement the Gospel or Good news without acting out the Gospel and Good News would be useless when we do not also follow the Golden Rule.

James 2:14-26New King James Version (NKJV)

Faith Without Works Is Dead
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Yep I Agree Brother Caligastia 8)

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your[a] works, and I will show you my faith by my[b] works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?[c] 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”[d] And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Greetings Friends!!

To nod and Ysmael - I certainly agree that the internet is a defining moment for dissemination. I do find it odd however, that such opinions are shared on a website of dissemination! Hahahahaha....kind of funny don't you think? Both of you and all of us here who share this book together are also disseminators - students, student/teachers, and all of us in serious discussion of the contents of the UB....especially when this site is most true to its purpose - new readers meeting seasoned students in the process of discovery. Dissemination. I think it a most worthy topic to discuss the profound differences in dissemination before and after the world wide web and the evolutionary reality of instant global communication - it is a game changer for sure! And yet, there are still many places where digital devices and internets are not available or affordable and yet such souls find ways to discover the UB, start study groups (often sharing one book amongst many readers in such group discovery) and places with internet which are highly censored and controlled as to available content where the UB is not available. It is proper to remove local, recent, personal biases when considering the access to the internet vs. the need for printed books!

It might be useful to define the term "disseminate" to guide the conversation forward. The Association's stated mission is the dissemination of "the teachings" which does, still, include getting printed books into the hands of readers who seek it out but have no access to commercial distribution or cannot afford to buy the book - sometimes carried by burro or on top of head or smuggled into danger zones for such distributions - into jungles and across deserts, sometimes shipped on slow boats to distant lands in strange languages. The Association partners with the Foundation who's primary purpose is focused on printing, publishing, translating, and distribution of the book - but also provide the Association free or deeply discounted books for such dissemination needs. Translations of the text remain a huge cost and priority for the Foundation. The Foundation also helped found, finance, and launch the UBIS (UB Internet School) which is growing into self funded autonomy but has been around quite awhile....since the internet. The International Association has spent 3 years building a multi-lingual website for its world wide membership as a communications device for all readers in all languages.

So, to me, dissemination includes translating, printing, distribution of the UB, but also the hosting of gatherings of students to teach and to learn from one another and form bonds of friendship and teamwork - from study groups (virtual ones by language are growing fast) to Birthday Celebrations to regional conferences to national ones and even international ones, and it includes radio broadcasting (internet style) and websites for readers to share art and ideas and news, and the development of formalized curriculums and the formation of teacher corps to assist in the development of true scholarship and specialized studies, and too many other forms to list here now. This is all dissemination of either the book itself or the teachings within a growing community. All this requires infrastructure, organization of resources and volunteers, servants and servant leaders who bring to bear great professional expertise in such organizational potential.

Did not this model and pattern for dissemination begin in Dalamatia? And repeated by the Garden and Machiventa and the Master? Why would the 5th Revelation be "self disseminating" - and how? Why would the hand and sincere efforts of willing mortals be bypassed with this record of fact and truth? How do the Most Highs, angels, and midwayers work on planetary destiny without human participation and activation? Are we to await miracles and require the celestials to operate on the material levels required for dissemination?

As to the "rich man's" issue....I understand and it is true that, especially early on, that most all the money raised for the work of printing and publishing and placing the book hand to hand and hand to library, etc. came from some deep pockets and much of today's support still comes from those of means - however the number of donors is increasing while the average amount per donation declines...a healthy democratization effect by a growing student body. The subsidization of the bridge of pre-internet dissemination by the wealthy and educated and successful early readers is what made the first printing and the 1oth printing and the first translation and the 15th translation possible. So I do not lament such largesse which offered no material reward or recognition for this generous support to dissemination of Revelation. But truth be told, I have purchased many a case of books from the Foundation and the Brotherhood and Societies paid cash, donated cash, for thousands of books to be given away to readers, libraries, etc......for decades! The Foundation has never made $1 of profit publishing the UB - oh contrare, even today, the sales proceeds barely cover or don't even cover actual printing and distribution costs of the printed book, which means all translations are completed only by donations and volunteers - as is the internet school and all administrative expenses, etc., etc., etc. Does anyone believe anyone makes money at dissemination?? Hahaha - that's a good one!

Everyone who has a UB, has it ONLY because of and by the volunteerism and free will donations of disseminators in time gone by....every single book, no matter how discovered. They don't drop out of the sky.....or not until now anyway!! Regarding the Foundation, Fellowship, and Association, I can testify that hardly anyone has ever been paid anything, including their own expenses. Paid administrative staff has been lean and low paying while 99% of all work is done and has always been done by willing, nay, eager volunteers. Today, I'd estimate the number of active volunteers and donors in those 3 organizations alone at over 2000 souls (and growing) and cannot begin to count how many individuals and teams work outside of the Big 3 creating all sorts of new forms of dissemination in loving expressions of selfless service. All do so in anonymity or very close to it, known primarily by other servants and volunteers only.

I have always recognized this reality....I got mine because someone else (many someone elses) did something, personally, to make that happen...somewhere, somehow, sometime....someone chose the priority and the act to put this bread upon the water where it came to me. It was not accidental. It could not happen without human intervention and intention. I was the beneficiary of loving service. Been a disseminator myself ever since I discovered I was not the only person with a book. Oh joy!! One of the greatest thrills and rewards I have enjoyed is working in teams with common purpose but very diverse skills, interests, and abilities - learning how to accomplish with others what none may accomplish alone. Isn't there something about like minded souls who strive together to serve others and what blessings and power may come by such sincere endeavor? I think so, yes, I think there is. We here enjoy the fruit of other's loving labor - work with faith!! It is not by faith only or works without faith....those with faith must ACT or there is no faith at all.

The world wide web brings new opportunities...but again - nothing happens on the internet unless and until some person or team of persons ponies up cash and time and ingenuity and creativity and passion and dedication and perseverance. The internet ain't magic after all....nor free. TruthBook is one great example. Who thinks this site which is free to use is actually without cost? Who designed it and created it and pays for it? Who keeps it operational? Who gave vision to such a wondrous site? How many have benefited? What might it lead to in the future? Have friendships been made? Has teamwork been afoot here? Has anyone been inspired to study more and do more in the spirit of love and service? Behold Dissemination.

Today, there is a dramatic shift in tactics and strategies to be sure....but all remain within the definition of dissemination. Or so I think.

Brad aka fanofVan.....Van and Amadon - also disseminators!!! 8)

P1569:1, 140:1.4 "But for you, my children, and for all others who would follow you into this kingdom, there is set a severe test. Faith alone will pass you through its portals, but you must bring forth the fruits of my Father's spirit if you would continue to ascend in the progressive life of the divine fellowship. Verily, verily, I say to you, not every one who says, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but rather he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

P1569:2, 140:1.5 "Your message to the world shall be: Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and in finding these, all other things essential to eternal survival shall be secured therewith. And now would I make it plain to you that this kingdom of my Father will not come with an outward show of power or with unseemly demonstration. You are not to go hence in the proclamation of the kingdom, saying, `it is here' or `it is there,' for this kingdom of which you preach is God within you.

P1569:3, 140:1.6 "Whosoever would become great in my Father's kingdom shall become a minister to all; and whosoever would be first among you, let him become the server of his brethren. But when you are once truly received as citizens in the heavenly kingdom, you are no longer servants but sons, sons of the living God. And so shall this kingdom progress in the world until it shall break down every barrier and bring all men to know my Father and believe in the saving truth which I have come to declare. Even now is the kingdom at hand, and some of you will not die until you have seen the reign of God come in great power.

P1569:4, 140:1.7 "And this which your eyes now behold, this small beginning of twelve commonplace men, shall multiply and grow until eventually the whole earth shall be filled with the praise of my Father. And it will not be so much by the words you speak as by the lives you live that men will know you have been with me and have learned of the realities of the kingdom. And while I would lay no grievous burdens upon your minds, I am about to put upon your souls the solemn responsibility of representing me in the world when I shall presently leave you as I now represent my Father in this life which I am living in the flesh." And when he had finished speaking, he stood up.

Greetings,

I especially liked the part when the revelators inform us In Paper 196 that unselfish social consciousness is religious consciousness only if it is objective, that only a God-knowing person can love another person as he loves himself. This fact makes it clear that social consciousness is only loving if it has God as its foundation. God comes first. Spirituality is the measure of one's usefulness to others. Spirituality comes first.

As coop pointed out in quote 140:1:5, we are to first seek the kingdom of God. Of course the body needs all sorts of things, but the soul's needs are more important, much more important. Jesus did not teach social service. Jesus taught that social service is one of the effects of the possession of the spirit of true religion. (159:5:8) Jesus taught that unselfish social service is the natural outgrowth of the spirit manifested in the life of each individual. (178:1:4)

Jesus put the spirit of positive action into the passive doctrines of the Jewish religion. In the place of negative compliance with ceremonial requirements, Jesus enjoined the positive doing of that which his new religion required of those who accepted it. Jesus' religion consisted not merely in believing, but in actually doing, those things which the gospel required. He did not teach that the essence of his religion consisted in social service, but rather that social service was one of the certain effects of the possession of the spirit of true religion. 159:5:8

Sonship in the kingdom, from the standpoint of advancing civilization, should assist you in becoming the ideal citizens of the kingdoms of this world since brotherhood and service are the cornerstones of the gospel of the kingdom. The love call of the spiritual kingdom should prove to be the effective destroyer of the hate urge of the unbelieving and war-minded citizens of the earthly kingdoms. But these material-minded sons in darkness will never know of your spiritual light of truth unless you draw very near them with that unselfish social service which is the natural outgrowth of the bearing of the fruits of the spirit in the life experience of each individual believer. 178:1:4

To me, this means that service to mankind comes in many different forms, but the most important service is to the soul. Feeding the hungry, providing shelter, clothing, medical care and other physical needs are not the only types of service available to faith-sons. True faith-sons have an additional calling, to feed the soul. If it were otherwise, then Jesus would have instructed his apostles to set up soup kitchens, homeless shelters and hospitals. He did not do that. He told them to tell the good news, to share the gospel of the kingdom. This doesn't mean that someone who feeds the soul cannot also feed the body, but the soul has priority in my opinion. What good is a well-fed, well-clothed body without a soul, or with a soul suffering in conflict? Priorities!

In Friendship,
Rexford

Okay, I guess that's fine and dandy but it is one thing to believe in "God" and everyone else second but, is there a benefit to God by being first?

You indicate that it is "most important service is to the soul", who's "soul"?

If your service is to your own soul, then that's fine but, if your service is to another's soul, how does one, who is preforming this service, know what that other soul is in need of, then also to know how to provide, whichever service that soul needs?

And, actually Jesus did setup soup kitchens, and sheltered the homeless, when He established the method of living by the multitude who followed and live in common, together. Did Jesus teach those in charge of the group to turn anyone away? Please remember how Jesus and the disciples and their family lived? Did they live off of Jesus' words alone or did they have an infrastructure which they lived by? Not to much is presented about this common living infrastructure after Jesus' death, but I'm sure that it did not die with Him.

I think it important to clarify that dissemination may include evangelism but there are important distinctions. Prior to revelation in print, or even sacred texts available to the common people, the good news had to be mouth to ear, person to person. Printed books became available to the truth seeker who seeks.

Today, the UB is far more easily "found" by those who seek....and, like all others, I have found it unfruitful to project the "need" for truth to any who are not seeking it out. Making the book of fact and truth available seems to be working quite well now as the primary form of dissemination without trying to select who and when and where and how to evangelize another soul. Disseminators feed souls by placing bread on the water, first, and responding to those who take it up for themselves....a form of self selection by each student and truth seeker.

Those who think of dissemination only as evangelism miss the greater opportunity for service to the all, over time, and to the each by their own self discovery of that which disseminators make available. The paternal love of God and the family of all beings should be evangelized by living such truth and becoming fragrant and attractive by the fruits of the Spirit....and not by beating others over the head with 40 pounds of Big Blue.

It is also certainly true that many souls, readers of UB and not, serve love and the kingdom without ever disseminating. Disseminating is but one way to serve....a self selected way....and that all disseminators I have ever known certainly serve humanity in limitless personal ways....personal service, social service, etc. All that one does sincerely and as motivated by love of another and all others contributes to their own soul and the Supreme and the upliftment of all.

I just happened to select UB dissemination as one such form of service to discuss here...its forms and function and success and failure and the new challenges that this new era of globalized communication delivers to this form of service.
