Hello all, I'm not sure where to begin so I will just start. I am looking for advice on starting up a study group in my region (Lubbock, Tx) as there are none nearby. I've been reading the Urantia book for around five years now and while I've enjoyed some success at introducing others, friends and family mostly to the book I think something a bit more organized might be more beneficial though I'm really not sure where to begin. I've read around and found much good information however I would appreciate more tailored advice. Thank you all so much in advance

P.S. I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong board I read around and I didn't see any boards more tailored for this kind of request, nor did I see any rules against such a post though I could have missed something, I'm terribly sorry if I made a mistake, I'm not often a denizen of a forum If I've broken any rules or mistakenly placed this i will be happy to move/delete it. Thank you moderators for your patience and assistance.

Dear Caedrus,

You're in the right place...

It's great that you want to start a group. Many years ago, I started one, too, and it ran for several years. It was a wonderful experience...

Here are some links that will take you to articles that will probably be helpful:

From Urantia Foundation website
http://www.urantia.org/en/study/value-study-groups

From The Fellowship website
http://urantiabook.org/archive/readers/doc990.htm

http://urantiabook.org/archive/studyaid/study_group_tips.htm

http://urantiabook.org/archive/studyaid/s_groups.htm

I wish you all the best in your endeavor. Let us know if we can help you further...

Sincerely,

MaryJo

You might start by posting your info in the new study group portal at http://www.urantiastudygroup.org/home.php so people can find your group and inquire.

As for managing the group itself, there are many ways to do so and the info MaryJo linked could help. I think the best way to do it is after you have a few people committed to meeting. You can then all talk about what you want to get out of the group, when and how often you want to meet and how you want to go about the study portion of the meeting - sequentially, by topic, etc. Each group is a reflection of the people who are in it and it seems only natural that you should tailor your group to the desires and goals of those participating.

Thank you all very much for your your advice and assistance. It certainly has clarified much of the information that i was needing. Now to see if there are any other readers in my region that would be interested in such a study group (Not a request for people to say so here just stating fact, as I know no other readers in my city) Again thank you for all the advice and best wishes for any endeavours you too may do.

There is a strong group in Austin that I am sure would be willing to help you out.

Contact them and see if they have any starter materials.
