As a really new reader, I'm continually confounded and momentarily thrown off-track by seeing the mutiplicity of names for various spiritual beings..... it seems that the revelators were not satisfied with making the Fog Index of the papers unreasonably high, they also refer to some beings with multiple titles. :x .... very confusing to me..... Question: does there exist - anywhere - a guide to the many names of each of the beings discussed in TUB? (I can't believe that I'm the only one with this problem.... )

Hi redryder...

Here is a resource that describes the authors of The Urantia Book - there are more than 20 authors, so it's a fairly good representation of some of the spiritual beings we read about in the book. It gives you a good description of the beings and their functions in the universe. Other than that, I can't think of any other guide other than the book itself.

Great link!!

So...in many, many cases the multiplicity of names are actually titles or roles or duty stations or offices held by different celestials or mortals. Nearly all beings can and often do hold a multiplicity of administrative and service roles.

To your point though, for example, Adjusters certainly are known by several different titles or names for the same duty/task/role.

The list you seek is found in the "Contents of the Book", especially see Papers 15-51 - the title of each section, presented for the Central Universe and Super Universes and Local Universes. Many other beings exist too we are told, but are not named, listed, described, or identified but are called "unrevealed".

One purpose of Epochal Revelation is to enlarge our sense of scope and scale and expand the detail and complexity of universe reality. Reality is overwhelming. It should be. It must be. The evolutionary crucible of creating potential for realization and reality actualization is a very complex engine of perpetual cause and effect.

It is not simplistic. The universes of time and eternity are universities of study and discovery and innovation and experiential wisdom for trillions of trillions of beings.

It will take us awhile to learn all about it!! There will be tests on our understanding and knowledge to come...but it's not a race. Curiosity and the adventure of learning and growing will bring our eventual success!!

My advice is don't let anything slow down your first read...or two. Plow and push through. Seek momentum and rhythm and gain a 30,000 foot flyover view of the terrain. See the forest before studying each tree. You will discover new facts and new understanding and connections to different 'trees' with every reading. Enjoy!! 8)

(551.1) 48:5.6 In the schools of the morontia life these teachers engage in individual, group, class, and mass teaching. On the mansion worlds such schools are organized in three general groups of one hundred divisions each: the schools of thinking, the schools of feeling, and the schools of doing. When you reach the constellation, there are added the schools of ethics, the schools of administration, and the schools of social adjustment. On the universe headquarters worlds you will enter the schools of philosophy, divinity, and pure spirituality.

(551.2) 48:5.7 Those things which you might have learned on earth, but which you failed to learn, must be acquired under the tutelage of these faithful and patient teachers. There are no royal roads, short cuts, or easy paths to Paradise. Irrespective of the individual variations of the route, you master the lessons of one sphere before you proceed to another; at least this is true after you once leave the world of your nativity.

Hi redryder, is Paper 30 ("Personalities of the Grand Universe") the sort of list you're after?

Thanks, Nigel, but that's not what I'm looking for..... however, if each listed name was followed by "AKA" and some other names by which the listed personality is referred to within TUB, then THAT would be what I was looking for.

Hi redryder,

Our local universe mother spirit certainly has a few different (and very descriptive) names; Thought Adjusters, being undefinable, are of course referred to in a variety of ways; likewise the members of the Paradise Trinity. Can you give an example of other beings with multiple and confusing names?

Nigel

Thanks, Bradly, but that ("The list you seek is found in the "Contents of the Book", especially see Papers 15-51 - the title of each section, presented for the Central Universe and Super Universes and Local Universes."). isn't what I'm looking for either. As a newbie, when I'm reading along somewhere in TUB, or in something a TUB reader has posted, in a discussion thread, and I come across a term that's obviously the name of some personality or other, it would be nice to have an aphabetical listing of all such personalities, using their primary name, followed by all the other names by which they are referred to. Hence my question. (It might be even nicer if the listing included those other names, perhaps in lower case letters, or in some manner identified as "other names".)

Regarding handy lists of terms, here's one: List of terms in the Urantia Book

Also here: Urantia Book Terminology

Also, see the Table of Contents in this paper: Entities, Beings and Personalities of the Urantia Book

PS: These sorts of "secondary works" appear when someone sees a need, then chooses to meet that need. You may be just the person needed to create the sort of resource you have in mind
